Continue ReadingThe Commonwealth Basketball Group held their second session of their Fall Series at Guardian Christian Academy in Chesterfield, VA. The goal of the event was to get kids back in the gym in a grassroots setting, and provide a live steam to college coaches to be able to evaluate the talent in a structured environment.
The event had 16 teams and was loaded with talent, so doing the standouts in just one article simply isn’t possible. Here’s a look at part one of the 2021 standouts, featuring seven guys to keep an eye on.
Quentin Livingston Quentin Livingston 6'4" | SF Kings Fork | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WF | CBG 460
Livingston and his 460 group weren’t in the first session but they were by far one of the most talented teams in the event, and Livingston was one of the biggest reasons why. The versatile and athletic 6’4” wing was all over the floor playing with good energy, and he was there to prove he’s one of the most under recruited guys in the state. He was efficient and scored it from multiple levels, he rebounded and defended well and he was flat out one of the best players in the gym all-around. He finished the two games, both wins, averaging 20 points on 13-for-16 shooting from the floor and 5-for-6 shooting from deep and he pitched in 7 rebounds in each game as well.
Allen Strothers Allen Strothers 6'2" | PG Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’2” PG | Hard 2 Guard
Strothers was a big time standout in session one and picked up an offer from Troy afterwards, and somehow he was even better for Hard 2 Guard this week. After showing his passing and playmaking ability last week, he flipped the script and showcased his scoring ability at the point guard position as he created shots for himself at multiple levels and was efficient in both games, both which were wins. The athletic guard got to the rim at will and showed improvement in his shooting touch, as he averaged 19.5 points per game, shooting 63% from the field, and he also ran the show with three assists per game and only one turnover throughout the day.
Caleb Furr Caleb Furr 6'6" | PF Bishop Walsh | 2022 VA | 6’6” WF | Highland School
Furr is a guy that is right on the verge of pulling in more offers as he continues to impress in a number of ways at the Fall Series. Even when he isn’t shooting the ball well, you can see in his form and rotation off his release that he can shoot the basketball, he’s surprisingly shifty off the bounce and his versatility makes him a mismatch nightmare moving forward. He can fill it up, rebound and his high basketball IQ makes him easy to plug into different systems moving forward.
Kahlil Venable | 5’10” PG | CBG East
Venable is one of the most underrated point guards in the Richmond area, and he was huge in East’s two wins including a tough come from behind win in the 9 AM game. In multiple games that I have watched with Venable in it the last few years, he always seems to be the guy who makes big shots and sparks a come back. He has some toughness to him, he can stick it from deep and make plays for others and he’s a guy who just finds ways to win.
Zach Rosenthal Zach Rosenthal 6'0" | SG Steward School | 2021 State VA | 6’0” WG | Rockett
Rosenthal is a guy I have watched many times for years now, and again in the Fall Series he showed that no matter who he’s matched up with he’ll find a way to productive. He isn’t the biggest or most athletic guy, but he’s a skilled shot maker that is consistent from deep and has deep range and he’s a good rebounder at his size and position. He finished their second game, a win over Mr. C’s Fastbreak, he finished with 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting from the field.
Cam Cormany Cam Cormany 6'0" | SG Radford | 2021 State VA | 6’0” G | VA Blaze
One of the more underrated prospects in the Roanoke/New River Valley area, Cormany was quietly a big time scorer last year averaging over 20 points per game at Radford, and while he was a new addition to this Blaze team he fit in perfectly with his ability to make shots and his unselfish demeanor. Cormany is a guy who can play on or off the basketball, he can get to spots or catch and shoot from deep and he makes good decisions when he gets in the lane. He averaged 12.5 points per game in the event and was 6-for-14 from deep in two games.
Nick Jones | 6’3” F | VA Blaze
Jones wasn’t one of the top scorers for Blaze but his style of game makes him look like a small school delight and someone ODACs should be all over. Jones is a guy who doesn’t really have a position but he has the size, athleticism and motor to make plays on both ends of the floor, and he can make shots from multiple levels as well. He doesn’t try to do too much, he rebounds on both ends and he can defend multiple positions.
