The Commonwealth Basketball Group held their first session of their Fall Series at Guardian Christian Academy in Chesterfield, VA. The goal of the event was to get kids back in the gym in a grassroots setting, and provide a live steam to college coaches to be able to evaluate the talent in a structured environment.

The event had 12 teams and was loaded with talent, so doing the standouts in just one article simply isn’t possible. Here’s a look at part one of the 2021 standouts, featuring seven guys to keep an eye on.

Bryson Kitrell | 6’0” PG | Team Assist 2021

Kitrell is a kid who I haven’t seen in over a year since he moved to Southern Maryland Christian from Matoaca, but he was extremely impressive throughout the event and showed vast improvement since the last time I saw him. He has grown to about 6’0”, developed from a stand still shooter to an all-around point guard and he made great decisions and tough shots throughout the day. He finished his two games averaging 18 points per game and shooting 65% from the field, and is a guy that coaches from multiple levels should be recruiting.

[player_tooltip player_id="798686" first="Clarence" last="Rupert"] | 6’7” PF | Team Assist 2021

Rupert manned a very talented front line for the showcase team and was the top rebounder throughout the event. The 6’7” forward isn’t the most athletic guy but he’s big and strong, boxes out and pursues the basketball and has an offensive game that is very versatile as he can play inside-out and be a mismatch problem. He finished his two games averaging 8 points per game and 12.5 rebounds per game.

Davian Coleman | 6’8” C | Team Assist 2021

The Virginia Beach Sports Academy big man is a guy that I’m blown away doesn’t have more recruitment going, as he shows flashes of brilliance and tons of long term potential once he gets to college. The 6’8” big has a blue collar mentality, as he runs the floor hard, hits the glass on both ends and doesn’t try to do more than what he excels in.

Jaden Walker | 6’1” G | Team Assist 2021

Walker is one of the more underrated guys in the 804 area and had a big year for Petersburg last year and is emerging as a collegiate prospect this summer. The 6’1" combo guard is a smooth operator that can play on or off the basketball, and he scores it in bunches in a number of ways when he gets it going. He finished with 20 points off the bench in Assist’s second win over NOVA Cavs.

[player_tooltip player_id="697137" first="Caleb" last="Kenney"] | 6’6” PF | Team Assist 2021

Kenney is a guy whose recruitment continues to confuse me because it makes no sense why this guy doesn’t have all sorts of Patriot and Ivy League School offers. The 6’6” hybrid forward is not only a terrific student and human being, he continues to impress on the court with his athleticism and versatility on both ends of the floor. He’s a guy who’s fearless when he attacks the rim and is good for at least a poster a game, he can create shots and handle in transition and can guard multiple positions. In their first game against VA Blaze, Kenney scored 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting and pitched in 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a block for good measure.

[player_tooltip player_id="902072" first="Caleb" last="Furr"] | 6’7” F | Highland School 2021

Furr had coaches very excited about his potential throughout the event as the 6’7” forward shook off a slow start to help bring his team back in their first game against Hard 2 Guard with his mismatch ability on the offensive end. Furr is a special talent offensively as he can handle and really shoot the rock at his size, and he’s a guy who can play on and off the ball and score in a number of ways. Furr finished with 15 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field in their win over Hard 2 Guard, scoring 13 of his 15 in the second half and only missing one shot that half.

Yusef Salih | 6’2” PG | Highland School 2021

The Idaho commit was different than everyone else as he kept his mask on as he played, but that didn’t stop him from being a major two way impact guy throughout the event. With Villanova commit [player_tooltip player_id="697111" first="Angelo" last="Brizzi"] out with a knee injury, Salih moved to the primary ball handler and showed that he can run a team, control the tempo and create shots for himself and others with ease. He’s a good athlete and a good rebounder for his position, and he will continue to improve more and more as he plays with the ball in his hands.
