We are a month away from the basketball season tipping-off and we couldn’t be more excited. We will have a fun-filled season that will start on time and we have some players that will be poised to have some great productive seasons. We will also have some new teams and new players make their impact and their debuts.

6A is loaded and Region 4 will be the focal point once again as it took a backseat to Region 1 last season. It will be no surprise to anyone paying attention who will be #1 but after that it is all in the air and it will change constantly with so many good teams and players scattered across the state.

American Fork will start the year at #1 in almost anyone’s poll as they have been playing some excellent basketball this fall and they’re missing one of their most notable guards ([player_tooltip player_id="934486" first="Noah" last="Moeaki"]) in the rotation due to football. With the addition of Nationally Ranked [player_tooltip player_id="1046067" first="Jaxon" last="Kohler"] and [player_tooltip player_id="967707" first="Yaw" last="Reneer"] (Timpview) and [player_tooltip player_id="1046030" first="Jace" last="Chatman"] (Washington). Not to mention the solid players that return and the ones that will make their way onto the Varsity program that played JV last season. With height and depth we will see if American Fork can live up to the hype.

# 2 Like we said before after # 1 it is difficult to see what team will take that spot. Corner Canyon has been playing well. They have been able to show off how much improvement [player_tooltip player_id="755623" first="Trace" last="Ross"] has been as he has played without [player_tooltip player_id="755629" first="Carter" last="Welling"] and Phill Harris and they have been good. They have some tough young talented players as well. When they’re fully-loaded they’re tough to beat as they have depth at each position. Lone Peak has also looked extremely tough to beat as they can play at a great pace and they have a solid Division 1 big in [player_tooltip player_id="755613" first="Cameron" last="Brimhall"]. Lone Peak is a scary team to play.

When it comes to the others teams that could land in the Top 5 you can’t ignore what Davis can do. Davis has some kids that can absolutely shoot the ball as they are lead by [player_tooltip player_id="934473" first="Rex" last="Sunderland"] and Henry Ihrig. Davis could be a match-up problem for a lot of teams. Then you have a team like pleasant Grove that has a mixture of toughness, veteran leadership coming back and some new players that could help right away. The like of [player_tooltip player_id="934025" first="Jordan" last="Ross"], [player_tooltip player_id="968781" first="Dylan" last="Jones"] and [player_tooltip player_id="933800" first="Isaac" last="Vaha"] could be a lot to deal with as they have the defensive toughness to stop teams and the offensive firepower to outscore anyone. Bingham is another team that could just sneak it’s way up in the ranking as they have a lot of returners coming back. With a mixture of shooting and size Bingham has some nice pieces. [player_tooltip player_id="543098" first="Jordan" last="Toscano"], Justus Reiser and [player_tooltip player_id="968083" first="Devin" last="Carlson"] make a great trio of players that could really give teams problems.

Don’t think we have forgotten about one of last years top teams in Layton as they return the biggest front-court in the state with [player_tooltip player_id="755612" first="Ethan" last="Potter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="966026" first="Preston" last="Squire"]. They will be very young at guard and those young guards will need to grow up quick if they want to compete with some of these teams that have some major veteran and battle ready guards. Skyridge is another tough team that plays with great tempo. With a kid that can really shoot the ball like [player_tooltip player_id="543090" first="Duncan" last="Reid"] anything is possible. Duncan might score some major points this season but Skyridge has some solid players on their roster that will surprise teams because they haven’t seen them play before.

To round up the Top 10 we take a look at Westlake that is a team that plays so unselfish. Big man [player_tooltip player_id="933802" first="Hunter" last="Phillips"] and [player_tooltip player_id="755630" first="Noah" last="McCord"]. They also have a nice SG in Ashton Anderson that could really get streaky. Then you have a team like West Jordan that almost returns everyone and that is not a good sign for teams in their region. [player_tooltip player_id="934507" first="Logan" last="Prince"] can play and he could lead West Jordan to another Region Championship.

Sleepers

Cyprus High School not only returns one of the top scorers in the state in [player_tooltip player_id="934030" first="Quentin" last="Meza"], but they’re always so well coached. Quentin is a smooth ball handler that can get his own shot and also create for other players. They have a nice wing player in [player_tooltip player_id="934034" first="Justus" last="Jackson"] who is athletic and has had a little growth. The also add a nice freshman in [player_tooltip player_id="1057025" first="Diego" last="Mulford"] who can also push the tempo. Cyprus has some solid pieces to make some games fun and win a lot at the same time.

Weber High School is not only well coached but they have a nice inside/outside game that could give teams issues. [player_tooltip player_id="934476" first="Cannon" last="Devries"] is not only fast and can get to the rim at ease, he is shooting the ball a lot better than he did last season. With the combination of him and [player_tooltip player_id="755624" first="Quinn" last="Bennet"]t that will make Weber a tough out on any given night.
