For Elite 24, the Black squad wasn’t able to notch a win in their four games but they played hard and garnered not only experience but built chemistry. The squad was comprised of standouts from the Classes of 2021 and 2022 and here’s a look at their top performers.
Nic Boyd Nic Boyd 6'0" | PG La Salle Prep | 2021 State OR (2021 La Salle)
The spot of best senior point guard is up for grabs and based on the way Boyd played, he’s got a case. He was counted on for a lot of offense but the 6-foot floor leader played with pace, allowing the game come to him and taking what the defense gave him. He hit shots at all three levels, using a crafty dribble to get past his defender for opportunities. Boyd was vocal on the floor, helping his teammates get into the right spots when directing the offense.
Trent Templeton Trent Templeton 5'11" | CG David Douglas | 2021 State OR (2021 David Douglas)
Templeton brought plenty of energy, motor, and toughness all weekend long. The lefty guard had controlled aggressiveness on the offensive end, looking to attack the basket and draw contact. Templeton also showed some range to his shot ad stepped out and hit some pull-up jumpers right inside the three-point arc. Defensively he played hard-nosed man-to-man defense, took charges when needed, and really helped out on the boards.
Justin Hamilton Justin Hamilton 6'6" | PF Crescent Valley | 2021 State OR (2021 Crescent Valley)
Hamilton played tough in the paint on both ends. On the offensive end, the 6-foot-7 senior is a traditional back-to-the-basket post and he set up shop down low by getting great position, showed off some nice footwork when going to work, and commanded a double team at times. He and also stepped out and knocked down some lefty mid-range jumpers and even created off the dribble a bit. On the defensive end, he held his ground and did a nice job on the defensive backboards.
Austin Keel (2021 Clackamas)
Keel is an offensive-minded player who pretty much looked to score whenever he got the basketball. The 6-foot-2 wing knocked down some open shots but had a little bounce to his step in creating off the dribble and converting some buckets near the hoop. Keel is an all-around athlete, as he is also a pitcher on the Cavs baseball team.
Vernon Porter Vernon Porter 6'3" | SF Silverton | 2021 State OR (2021 Silverton)
The 6-foot-2 combo guard played hard and looked to use his physical body on both ends of the floor. Porter was tough defensively and on the boards, but also showed the ability to hit the open jumper out to three-point range when left open.
Jackson Senter Jackson Senter 6'7" | PF Silverton | 2021 ID (2021 Silverton)
Senter is a lanky 6-foot-7 forward who used his length effectively on the glass and on the defensive end. He converted some baskets in the lane while drawing contact but also showed the ability to step out and hit some perimeter shots as well.
Marshall Allen (2022 Tillamook)
Allen played earlier in the summer for International Elite’s 16U squad and we caught on to his ability to score both inside and out. The 6-foot-4 junior showed much of the same in this event, hitting a few outside jumpers while also posting up and converting a few points in the paint.
Landon Colburn (2022 Cottage Grove)
Colburn lacked size at 5-foot-7 but he certainly didn’t lack heart or courage. He fearlessly drove into the lane and often drew contact. He was steady with his ball-handling at the point and largely played turnover-free basketball.
