The class of 2022 rankings were recently released. With over 75 players making the list, it’s our most extensive rankings yet. Several players have taken the time over the last few months to work on and improve their game. In this article we take a look at 10 breakout candidates from the class of 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id="859644" first="Dontrell" last="Johnson"] 6’5 PF Bonanza (#13) - Sometimes opportunity is all it takes for a player to breakout. Johnson should be one of the main weapons for the Bengals this season. High motor athlete that impacts that game with his slashing, rebounding and defense. Don’t be surprised if he stuffs the stat sheet this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="859643" first="Shane" last="Thomas"] 6’3 SG Durango (#6) - My anticipation to see Thomas play grows larger with each passing day. A high wire act that can shoot the 3 and guard multiple positions should have no problem breaking out under the tutelage of Coach Beeten.

[player_tooltip player_id="928906" first="Jalen" last="Foy"] 6’5 PF Canyon Springs (#19) (featured image) - Really transformed his body over the past 6 months. Was a standstill pick and pop big before, now he is a more fluid wing that can make plays for teammates.

[player_tooltip player_id="859641" first="Damion" last="Byrd"] 5’10 PG SLAM (#12) - Bryd’s transfer to SLAM immediately makes them a 3A contender. His skill set should fit in nicely with returning leading scorers [player_tooltip player_id="985584" first="Noa" last="Del Pozo"] and [player_tooltip player_id="985591" first="Peter" last="Iliev"].

[player_tooltip player_id="1006755" first="Colson" last="Madruga"] 6’5 PF Lake Mead Christian Academy (#71) - Really looking forward to watching Madruga play. The rugged forward should have a major impact for LMCA, one of the favorites in 2A this year.

[player_tooltip player_id="858152" first="Jaycob" last="McBath"] 6’0 PG Desert Valley Prep (#10) - McBath is almost more combo than point, he’ll be competing against a national schedule so his experience playing for DVP last season should help a great deal.

[player_tooltip player_id="859656" first="Lorenzo" last="Moore"] 6’4 PF Canyon Springs (#20) - Moore feels like a player that has figured out what he’s good at. Low post defense and rebounding are valuable skills, and the 6’4 post naturally provides both. Moore is a high academic prospect as well, sporting a 3.6GPA

[player_tooltip player_id="928923" first="Gianni" last="Rodriguez"] 6’3 SF Sierra Vista (#30) - Rodriguez plays with a good pace, and has a ton of transferable skills. The versatile lefty can score off the bounce, create for teammates and rebound his position.

[player_tooltip player_id="928926" first="Jayvon" last="Jones"] 6’1 SG Centennial (#55) - Jones could have a big impact for the Bulldogs. With his strength and driving ability, I expect to see him spending plenty of time at the line this year.

[player_tooltip player_id="999101" first="Christian" last="Ware"] 6’2 SG SLAM (#69) - Ware had a nice growth spurt of 4 inches over the last 6 months. He should easily be able to adjust to the speed of varsity play. With his shooting ability I expect him to put together more than a few big nights.
