After giving our shiny new class of 2021 rankings for the Empire State some time to simmer, we’re back with loads of analysis. Some players have already made appearances on the site, but most players, especially ones from far upstate, have trouble even smelling exposure. Here, we take a look at some of the best players from West New York who ended up claiming a spot on our NY rankings.

345. [player_tooltip player_id="1048637" first="Bishop" last="Kopta"] | Clymer Central

Believe it or not, the thing that makes [player_tooltip player_id="1048637" first="Bishop" last="Kopta"] successful on the court is his experience in football. His football build allows him to put on strength and hold his own against bigger offenders, while he knows how to put away his weight at the right times and turn it into speed, being able to either lock down and keep up with almost anyone on the court.

183. JaVaugh Jones | Health Sciences

JaVaugh Jones has been a leader for Health Sciences, and often in the West New York stage can be seen at the forefront of the HS offense. Jones has the speed and mental capacity to fully put the offense in his own hands, running it in both slow, methodical situations while being able to adjust to fast-paced clutch situations. Jones knows the right pass to make, while he can also leave defenders tripping with a filthy pull-up move

244. [player_tooltip player_id="1048198" first="Oliver" last="Ngarukiyin"] | Hutchinson Central

If [player_tooltip player_id="1048198" first="Oliver" last="Ngarukiyin"] has been anything for Hutchinson Central, it’s consistent. The big center has always seemed to make the paint his home, and definitely lets the other team know. His elite defense denies guards before they put a shot up while still keeping track of his own man, a skill many bigs tend to lack. His offensive value includes his screens, playmaking, and definitely field goal conversion.

32. [player_tooltip player_id="1047660" first="Tyler" last="Putney"] | Fredonia

Despite his relative media silence and exposure, [player_tooltip player_id="1047660" first="Tyler" last="Putney"] has flat out demonstrated that he has been one of the best players in the state. His clutch shooting means his play doesn’t deteriorate as the game goes on, and mean’s he’s possibly even getting better as the game goes on. He can best be described as a microwave, with his play tending to get better by "heating up."

302. [player_tooltip player_id="1048575" first="Chris" last="Shabazz"] | Albion

Looking at [player_tooltip player_id="1048575" first="Chris" last="Shabazz"]’s highlights, it’s clear that there is only one aspect of the game that Shabazz holds above all, and that is defense. Shabazz is fast enough and strong enough to add defensive versatility, letting him put his good defensive IQ to good use on switches. Versitility like his is especially valuable, as it allows coaches to run out a variety of packages, fitting to almost any counter offense.

153. [player_tooltip player_id="1048090" first="Keith" last="White"] | Lake Shore

The one question surrounding shooters in basketball is their consistency. Anyone can hit one three point shot, but good shooting comes from hitting multiple in a stretch or in a span of time while covered by defense. [player_tooltip player_id="1048090" first="Keith" last="White"] is able to string together multiple shots in a sequence, giving his team over at Lake Shore a huge boost of consistency and offensive power.
