Each of these players are ones to watch for the upcoming season.
2021 Remington Rofer Remington Rofer 6'8" | PF Loyola | 2021 State CA-S — Loyola
Remington Rofer Remington Rofer 6'8" | PF Loyola | 2021 State CA-S is already one player to watch for his prowess as a forward. There is much that can be lauded about Rofer’s game but his sheer aggressiveness and physicality in the paint deserves the spotlight. He has the knack to will his way to winning physical rebound battles in the low post. Rofer does well to box out and also withstand pressure from an opponent once he is able to haul in a rebound. He is also mobile in the paint and a reliable finisher at the basket as well.
What makes his game stand out is that he is not a one-dimensional forward. Rofer has the capability to space the floor and hit from beyond the arc as well. His shooting efficiency is a work in progress, but he is sure to polish this area of his game over the upcoming season.
2021 Jayson Wiltz — Hillcrest
Jayson Wiltz is one under-the-radar 2021 guard. The 6’4” talent is one who can will his way to creating his own shot. He has shown promise of being crafty and creative when on the ball. Wiltz can take on defenders via swift spin moves or simply by speeding on by with his quick on-ball pace. The guard is also a talent who exerts superb effort on the defensive end. He has good awareness to pounce on for turnovers and has shown promise of being a defender who can apply efficient on-ball pressure.
2021 Brenton Knapper Brenton Knapper 6'0" | PG Colony | 2021 State #136 Nation CA-S — Colony
Colony’s Brenton Knapper Brenton Knapper 6'0" | PG Colony | 2021 State #136 Nation CA-S gained more recognition last season for his impressive play and is primed for a standout senior campaign. The 6’0” guard has quick bursting speed and is difficult to contain when he is in the open space, whether in transition sequences or as he maintains possession on the weak side. He is a reliable finisher at the rim who much prefers zig-zagging his way to his right side and patrolling inside for an attempt.
Knapper also works extremely well off of pick-and-roll situations and often succeeds in getting to his preferred spots on the floor. His on-ball quickness and lateral movements also attract double-teams, which opens up opportunities for him to become a playmaker. Knapper is a commit to Santa Clara University.
2022 Garrett Johnson — Oak Hills
One other promising talent from Oak Hills is Garrett Johnson. Watching Johnson and one can just appreciate the work he puts into each possession. He manages to be a disruptor on the defensive end, from taking charges to hauling in rebounds amid heavy traffic in the post. The 6’5″ forward does not shy away from contact in the paint and does well to contest attempts in the restricted area. While there is much to polish on with his offensive repertoire, his defensive work rate is what makes him a player to watch for the upcoming season.
