Varsity Scrimmage Evaluations: Week 2
Carson Cloud – Lane Tech – 2021
6’0” G ability to space the floor and shoot at a high rate, high level competitor, plays well from the off-guard position, and is best when coming off pin downs and flares.
Trenton Askew Trenton Askew 6'6" | SF Lane Tech | 2021 IL – Lane Tech – 2021
6’2” G/F playmaker who made good decisions in transition. Hit a pair of big threes in the first half of the first scrimmage both in rhythm and followed it with a bombardment of threes in the second half finishing with seven with maybe one of them touching the rim. Was consistent on the day pouring the ball in at a high rate.
Ajani Cobb – Conant – 2021
Small quick guard gets after it on the defensive end of the floor. Takes care of the ball and makes great decisions. Shoots best when spotting up off ball.
Alec Braun – Palatine Fremd – 2022
Impressed in today’s showing. Solid size standing just around 6’2”, made big shots throughout the day. Not the most athletic but just knows how to play. Makes good decisions playing out of ball screens, hits guys on time and on target. High IQ player.
Donovan Amos – Palatine Fremd – 2021
6’3” Scoring Forward made plays on the perimeter and showed consistent ability to shoot it. When the ball is in his hands, he finds a way to get it in the basket, soft touch around the rim with a long wiry frame can be a matchup problem.
Jacobe Strong – Streamwood Highschool – 2021
Made impressive plays in today’s showing. Has a knack for getting in the heart of the defense and finding ways to score or set a teammate up for a quality look. Best when out in transition. Broad shoulders and wide frame allows him to finish through guys and compete against longer defenders.
Marko Anderson Marko Anderson 6'6" | PF Maine South | 2021 State IL – Maine South – 2021
Aggressive on the defensive end of the floor. Made plays by setting screens and being active around the rim. Had a big first half and was the main scoring option for his team. Was able to run the floor in transition by rim running or pushing the ball coast to coast.
Sean Gallery Sean Gallery 6'2" | SG Maine South | 2021 State IL – Maine South – 2021
6’2” G plays the game well with a very high IQ. Was streaky on the day with shooting but shows good mechanics to be a more consistent shooter on most days. Best when put in position to set teammates up for opportunity to score. Natural position is playing lead guard but has size and off ball capabilities to be a combo guard. Just an overall fun player to watch play the game the right way.
Cooper Noard Cooper Noard 6'2" | PG Glenbrook South | 2022 State IL – Glenbrook South – 2022
One of those players that makes the game look easy. Never gets sped up and can score with or without the ball from all three levels. Had a variety of crafty touch floaters and finishes in the paint. Mid-range pull ups and shot well from three in both scrimmages. Had one of the better showings on the day.
Nick Martinelli Nick Martinelli 6'6" | SF Glenbrook South | 2022 State #235 Nation IL – Glenbrook South – 2022
Was a force all scrimmage long as he really caused problems getting downhill in a variety of ways whether it was by being involved in screening action, off the bounce or by slashing. Just has a great feel for the game. Led the way on the defensive end of the floor as well which helped his team get opportunities to get out in transition which he was rewarded with a few dunks from running the floor hard. An interesting 6’6” prospect who can swing the guard and forward positions and help a team in a variety of ways.
Chase Larsen – Prospect -2021
6’4” High IQ Guard, stays engaged at all times on both ends of the floor. A true combo guard can handle the ball and run the offense. Also can play off the ball and affect the game with shooting/slashing ability. One of the more consistent players of the day. Felt his presence and impact on the game through both scrimmages.
Owen Schneider – Prospect -2021
Small guard standing around 5’11’’ but another high energy competitor on the floor. Although undersized, he plays with tremendous physicality and possesses skills to be effective on the perimeter. Not afraid to let it fly but has great shot selection and shoots the ball efficiently as well. Hit more than a few big threes within the flow of the offense to help his team stay in the game or keep the lead during the scrimmages. Played well on the defensive end of the floor as well and was not a liability – had a great day.
Colin Votzmeyer – Prospect – 2021
A master of his role. Very solid 3 and D player who hit a bevy of shots throughout the day really stretching defenses thin which allowed his teammates to work with space. On the defensive end has the ability to consistently guard 1-4. Better when defending on the perimeter but has strength to compete down low.
Will Thomas – Lake Forest – 2021
Providing a solid post presence throughout the day, this Lake Forest prospect frees teammates up with screening ability, can pass from the pinch post and work around the basket. Seems to always be in position to make a play or grab a key rebound for his team.
Asa Thomas Asa Thomas 6'6" | SF Lake Forest | 2023 State #91 Nation IL – Lake Forest – 2023
6’4” guard is a unique player coming out of Lake Forest that can fulfill multiple roles as a guard or a wing due to his skill set paired with his size. Strength is as a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Makes the extra pass and makes the game easier for his teammates. Tough to guard in a one on one matchup. He can shoot, finish around the basket, post up, and takes advantage of his matchup.
Jack Malloy – Lake Forest – 2021
An undersized forward standing around 6’3” displayed great post up ability hitting a variety of hooks and touch shots in the paint. Plays big on the defensive end and has great length to challenge shots on bigger opponents. Has skill to play on the perimeter and be effective an off guard/small forward.
Bakari Nelson – Brother Rice – 2023
A relentless scorer gave matchups problems all day with his size and athleticism. Best when getting downhill off the bounce and making plays in the paint. A big guard with the ability to play combo. A pure athlete looks like he has promise to be one of the better players in his class for 2023.
Jonathan Takyi – Maine South – 2023
Had a great first day at fall scrimmages! Very active on both ends of the court recorded a few blocks and steals, while providing a steady scoring presence for his team on the other end of the floor.
SOPHOMORE Scrimmage Evaluations: Week 2
Ryan Jack – Glenbrook South – 2023
6’3” forward was highly effective around the rim and on the boards. Created multiple opportunities for his team to score by repeatedly crashing the boards on both ends of the court.
Gavin Marr – Glenbrook South – 2023
A sharpshooter. Had a lot of good looking shots even when he missed you felt like it was going in. Solid size best at the off-guard position. Can put the ball on the floor and score when needed.
Aryaan Merchant – Glenbrook South – 2023
Small shifty guard who likes to play up tempo and get out in transition. More of a playmaker than a scorer. Does a great job getting into the offense and getting to his spots and setting guys up. Plays with active hands on the defensive end causing a lot of deflections and turnovers.
Hayden Cink – Grayslake North – 2023
Offensive minded guard. Very crafty with the ball and has the ability to score it. Fun to watch play, mainly because he plays at 100 % all of the time! Not the most athletic but knows how to stay in front of guys. Definitely a player to watch as he matures.
