Looking ahead to the 2020-21 season, Prep Hoops Wisconsin previews the race in the Woodland West Conference...

PROJECTED ORDER OF FINISH

1. Pewaukee

2. New Berlin Eisenhower

3. West Allis Central

4. Wisconsin Lutheran

5. Pius XI

6. Greendale

7. New Berlin West

THE FAVORITE

The Pirates captured a share of the league crown last season and that was with a banged up [player_tooltip player_id="761419" first="Ashton" last="Janowski"]. The junior guard is coming

off a great summer and will pair with the No. 1 ranked player in 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="953944" first="Milan" last="Momcilovic"]. Junior wing [player_tooltip player_id="801168" first="Josh" last="Terrian"] is also one of the most under the radar players in the state, giving Pewaukee a dangerous trio. There’s also plenty of depth from the likes of Emmett Lowe, Kollen Osterman, and [player_tooltip player_id="865858" first="Logan" last="Dobberstein"].

TOP CHALLENGER

The Lions won 20 games last season and also split the Woodland West title. NBW loses some key parts from a year ago, but leading scorer [player_tooltip player_id="880038" first="Sam" last="Ludwig"] returns for his senior season. Sharpshooter [player_tooltip player_id="880007" first="Josh" last="Crubaugh"] will provide a nice 1-2 punch in the backcourt. An extremely consistent program, the Lions haven’t finished worse than fourth in the Woodland West since 2004-05.

DARK HORSE

Wisconsin Lutheran will be young, but talented. Reigning conference player of the year [player_tooltip player_id="880978" first="Tyrese" last="England"] is gone for the Vikings, who also claimed a share of the league crown last season, but sophomore guard [player_tooltip player_id="951467" first="Prentice" last="Young"] is ready to take the keys to the car. [player_tooltip player_id="963145" first="Landon" last="Key"] is also one of the top sophomores in the state, but if late bloomer [player_tooltip player_id="935491" first="Jonah" last="Rindfleisch"] can take some steps forward, this team is talented and deep enough to make another run at the title.

Even without [player_tooltip player_id="694830" first="Shilo" last="Bowles"], West Allis Central could get better. The trio of juniors, [player_tooltip player_id="988976" first="Greyson" last="Pritzl"], [player_tooltip player_id="804951" first="Jaqunis" last="Rhodes"], and [player_tooltip player_id="761411" first="Najashi" last="Tolefree"] all had breakout summers. WAC won 16 games last season, finished a game out of first place in the league, and came up one point short of reaching the sectional finals.

F Jonah Rindfleisch - Sr. - Wisconsin Lutheran

SECOND TEAM

G [player_tooltip player_id="804951" first="Jaqunis" last="Rhodes"] - Sr. - West Allis Central

G Jordan Glenn - Jr. - Wisconsin Lutheran

G [player_tooltip player_id="988976" first="Greyson" last="Pritzl"] - Jr. - West Allis Central

G [player_tooltip player_id="880007" first="Josh" last="Crubaugh"] - Sr. - New Berlin Eisenhower

W Nate Jocz - Sr. - New Berlin West

W [player_tooltip player_id="801168" first="Josh" last="Terrian"] - Jr. - Pewaukee

F Will Brust - Sr. - Greendale

PLAYER OF THE YEAR - SAM LUDWIG

Lugwig led the league in scoring last season at 18.6 ppg. He was also impressively top three in rebounds (7.2) and assists (2.5) as well. A do-it-all, swiss army knife guard, Ludwig is one of those prospects who just gets the most out of talent. In a conference light on seniors, Ludwig makes a strong case for preseason POY based on his prior accolades and importance to his team.

BREAKOUT PLAYER - GREYSON PRITZL

[caption id="attachment_1021224" align="alignright" width="300"] [player_tooltip player_id="988976" first="Greyson" last="Pritzl"][/caption]

Pritzl was fourth on the team last season in scoring for West Allis Central at 11.2 points per game. He’s going to be extremely dangerous in 2020-21 with the talent around him as opponents have to commit help defenders if they want to keep Tolefree and Rhodes from getting in the paint. A dangerous sharpshooter with strength for attacking the rim, Pritzl has the potential for big numbers every time he steps on the floor.

SURPRISE PLAYER - TRE VALERIANO

One of the most improved players in the state, Valeriano had a big summer and landed a Division 1 offer from Cleveland State. The high volume scorer comes over from Milwaukee Washington and will try and revitalize a Pius XI squad that had just two league wins in 2019-20.
