These are the standout athletes from Oklahoma from the competitive 17U divisions at the PrepHoops Southwest Slam. Expect these ballers to see a major uptick in recruiting after a very impressive weekend against some tough competition.

[player_tooltip player_id="745388" first="Gunner" last="Korstjens"] 2021 6’2 Oklahoma Wolfpack 17U Bridge Creek High School

Gunner is an athletic guard who is already taking the state of Oklahoma by storm. This scrappy and energetic guard puts in work on both ends of the floor. He rebounds the ball especially well for his size and displayed real aggressiveness at getting to the rim to score. He uses his strides well and has an intelligent use of a euro step. He is great at stepping through defenders in traffic and finishing with soft floaters. He is a great scorer off a live dribble at all three levels, he even has deep NBA range and will make you pay if left alone. The effort and energy he put in on the defensive side of the ball grants his team easy offense in the full court where he excels. I would like to see more creation for his teammates because of how much attention he will be drawing because of his elite scoring ability.

Gabriel Rhone-Dunn 2021 6’0 Oklahoma Wolfpack 17U Piedmont High School

Gabriel is a sharpshooting guard who loves to stretch the floor and make the defense pay from behind the arc. He is elite off the catch and the triple threat even if not given any space. He knocked down big shots when you could feel a lead beginning to get away or even when they put pressure on opposing team. He has long arms that allow him to be effective on the defensive end coming over to contest shooters and even protect the paint.

CJ Young 2021 6’0 Oklahoma Wolfpack 17U Mustang High School

CJ is an athletic guard who has a strong frame which he uses well to finish at the rack. He is smart within the flow of the offense and rotates over to the corners and operates well around the wings and top of the key to open up driving lanes for his teammates. He has strong explosive dribble moves that allow him to blow by defenders. I would like to see continued development on the defensive end and keeping his hands active, because he moves his feet well and has a strong body that can be disruptive on the defensive end.

[player_tooltip player_id="938870" first="Kayden" last="Carter"] 2021 6’6 BTR 17U Norman North High School

Kayden is relentless on the boards, using his frame and size to bully his competition. He has great energy and tenacity on both ends of the floor and his aggressiveness and hard work grant him easy opportunities. He is an intelligent player who has the ability to stretch out the defense in the midrange, as well as blow by them and bully undersized defenders around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="1039764" first="Simon" last="Blair"]e 2021 6’6 BTR 17U Broken Arrow High School

Simon is a larger wing/ forward with real potential to be effective at the next level. He is a reliable spot-up shooter, but true effectiveness is made from running the floor for easy opportunities and playing aggressive swarming defense. He is an extremely effective defender when protecting the rim and makes the right decision when tasked with jump-starting a fast break.

[player_tooltip player_id="745360" first="Jackson" last="Skipper"] 2021 6’6 BTR 17U Sapulpa High School
[caption id="attachment_1037393" align="alignnone" width="300"] Photo: Matt Reynolds[/caption]
Jackson is an oversized point guard whose court vision and unselfishness makes him a great teammate who sets up his team well for easy shots. His game is fluid and effective at all three levels. He is a confident ball handler and is smart at drawing contact in the midrange and around the rim. Most guards are too small to affect him at the rim and most bigs are not quick enough to keep up with him at this level. I would like to see more confidence in his jump shot and ability to stretch the floor.

[player_tooltip player_id="931231" first="Kwaen" last="Harding"] 2021 6’3 Next Level Oklahoma 17U Oklahoma City Storm High School

Kwaen is an athletic player whose energy and hustle drive his team toward success. His ability to attack the rim repeatedly granted his team easy buckets as well as make room for him to finish tough layups. He has the vision to create for his teammates, while still having the same effectiveness as a real scoring option for his team. I would like to see more confidence in his game from the outside in, and work on getting a pull-up midrange that he is comfortable with to be a more three-level scorer.

Miles Brown 2021 6’2 Next Level Oklahoma 17U Crossings Christian

Miles is a sniper from the three-point line. His effectiveness as a scorer from deep opens up opportunities for his teammates to drive. He forced the defense to know exactly where he was at all times as soon as he crosses half court. That kind of scoring ability is critical to have in this day in age of basketball, and he is setting himself up for good opportunities to be an effective player at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1015847" first="Sam" last="Battle"] 2021 5’10 Oklahoma Chaos Elite 17U Deer Creek High School

Sam is an aggressive point guard who really takes pride in the defensive end of the court. His hustle came up with multiple steals this weekend and really set the tone or his team. He has a real ability to knock down open shots as well as come off of screens for easier looks. He can control the tempo of his team and has the ability to run an entire offense through him. I would like to see more aggression on his drives to the rim and the ability to finish with his off-hand.

[player_tooltip player_id="1038768" first="Caleb" last="Miller"] 2021 6’4 Oklahoma Hustle 17U Black Stratford High School

Caleb is an extremely confident player he constantly plays and acts like the best player in the gym. He loves pulling up from deep. He is athletic and moves very well without the basketball. His constant motion and willingness to run off screens allows him to get many open looks. He is deadly from the corner and has all the tools to be an effective player at the next level.

[player_tooltip player_id="609752" first="Jordan" last="Thompson"] 2021 6’2 Oklahoma Hustle 17U White Broken Arrow High School

Jordan is an intelligent guard who knows how to space the floor and attack gaps in the defense. He plays with a good tempo and an ability to set up his teammates well. His passes are always crisp and in a good location for his shooters to easily rise up and shoot. He has all the tools to be an effective scorer and distributor. He can score off the dribble in a multitude of ways, but his real skill is his court vision and basketball IQ.

[player_tooltip player_id="745370" first="Keyondre" last="Young"] 2021 6’7 Oklahoma Swarm Elite 17U Del City High School

Keyondre is an athletic freak of nature who can finish well at the rim and defend any position on the court. He is very aggressive on the defensive end and has all the tools to be a game-changing defender. He has great explosiveness and threw down some jaw-dropping dunks including one reverse dunk along the baseline that shut down the gym. Guards are not able to hold him in the paint, and most wings and forwards are too slow to keep up with him driving to the hole. His ability to finish over and through defenders really stood out, I would like to see continued development in his game outside in, and more confidence in his jumper from deep.

[player_tooltip player_id="745382" first="Joell" last="Wilson"] 2021 6’2 Oklahoma Swarm Elite 17U Edmond North High School

Joell is a confident guard with a real ability to stroke it from deep. His ability to shoot off the bounce was unmatched against a game of tough competition. His shot-making ability spaced the floor for his teammates and created driving lanes for them as well. He intelligently moves without the basketball, within the flow of the offense filling space and knocking down big shots when granted the opportunity.

Willie Watkins 2021 6’5 Oklahoma Swarm Elite 17U Edmond Santa Fe High School

Willie is an athletic forward who rebounds the ball well for his size. He is aggressive underneath the glass and provided a few tip ins and extra possessions for his team as a result of his hard work. He runs the floor well in transition and knows how to fill gaps in the full court. He has a sweet stroke and can knock down shots with ease. He does well even with tight defense contesting his shot, his long arms allow him to shoot over the top of players with ease. I would like to see more work putting the ball on the floor and using his size and frame to get by defenders and finish at the rack.
