August 3rd and 4th Justin Vargas and I put on the 4th annual Southwest Basketball Camp at the Arizona Sports Complex in Phx, AZ.

104 players from Arizona, California, New Mexico and Michigan battled it out. 12 teams with 8-9 players each.

Each team played 4 games with a possible All-Star game. The All-Star games lived up to the hype with many coaches walking away impressed with what they saw and 6 basketball offers were given out so far.

We will go back and look at each teams players.

Here is Team ASU:

Top-20 game

[player_tooltip player_id="809671" first="Isaiah" last="Broady"] (Chandler)

-The top player at the camp earned the MVP. He is freaky long and has a lot of skill to go with it. He is an above the rim athlete and was arguably a top-5 shot blocker at the camp. When he is engaged, he is extremely difficult to score on. He has a pure stroke from the perimeter and has deep range from the volleyball line. He created separation better then anyone and scores it from all 3-levels and is very graceful in the air. He got past every top defender at the camp and he looks to have a huge year for the Wolves.

[player_tooltip player_id="703820" first="Grady" last="Lewis"] (Sunnyslope) (Pictured)

-A burly true power forward keeps getting a little better and more athletic. He was one of the top shot blockers at the camp and runs the floor really well for a big. He gets high above the ground to dunk or rebound the ball with strong hands. He can face up from 15-feet and in plus score it with his right or left hand.

[player_tooltip player_id="703811" first="Jason" last="Kimbrough Jr"] (Mountain Pointe)

-A super fast PG that is very competitive. He has improved on his athleticism and is clearly a better passer then last year. He tries to make his teammates better more than ever and he still has that pretty shooting stroke from deep. He has a polished floater and can now dunk the ball on the break. He is one of the top on-ball defenders in the class locally, if not THE best. His pace to his game, defense, competitiveness and shooting has him improving going into his senior year.

Top-40 game

[player_tooltip player_id="1024116" first="Donaven" last="Ocasio"] (Mountain Pointe)

-A naturally tough on-ball defender and pure PG. He looks to facilitate almost every possession. He also can make 3's at a decent rate when left open and use his speed to push the ball in the open court or get into the lane and score it. He doesn't need too many shots to be effective and he will bring a lot next HS season to the Pride with his defense, toughness, motor and shooting.

Non-Senior All-Star game

[player_tooltip player_id="973567" first="Daylyn" last="Martin"] (Desert Vista)

-A thin and quick scoring guard who uses speed and skill to get it done. He has a quick burst using his tighter handle to slither into the paint and score in traffic. He uses a nice hesi to get into the lane as well and can pull-up from mid-range. His best game was actually in the non-senior all-star game showing he can make plays for others plus hit the 3 on a consistent basis. The natural scorer will fill it up for the Thunder.

[player_tooltip player_id="814532" first="Brandon" last="Trilli"] (Desert Vista)

-Another Thunder player was "Mr Efficient". He can score it from all 3-levels and works best closer to the basket. His 3-ball was working as well as his mid-range J. He is extremely crafty near the basket and plays patiently waiting for the defenders to react and then he makes his move. He has long arms and rebounds the ball well in his area.

[player_tooltip player_id="993647" first="AJ" last="Turner"] (Higley)

-A fast scoring lead guard can handle the PG duties plus slide over and become a scorer. He has a real burst into the lane and a quickly improving pull-up from mid-range. He can hit the 3pt shot and has active hands and quick feet to defend his position.

[player_tooltip player_id="1031563" first="Jayshawn" last="James"] (Central)

-A long shooter with good speed. He has a nice looking stroke from the 3pt line and a consistent release. He uses his length to defend other guards and although didn't get the shot attempts as others, he played the right way. He shows high skill and will be a talent the next three years for Coach Bustos to develop at Central.

Others

[player_tooltip player_id="998975" first="Tomi" last="Stevens"] (Mountain Pointe)

-A bouncy wing can get to the rim and flush it down. He has a live body and although he didn't shoot the ball like he did last month, he still plays hard on both ends of the court and he doesn't take bad shots. He runs, jumps and defends. Another nice addition for the Pride next season, as they will be extremely deep with talent.
