Continue ReadingThe Lighthouse Christian Lions will look to make a run for the state title this season at the 1A DII level. Last season, the Lions compiled an overall record of 19-6 and a conference record of 10-0 under head coach Tony Standlee. Lighthouse Christian has slowly been working its way toward being a top competitor from the Twin Falls area, and last season showed their ability to win lots of games and beat high ranking opponents. The Lions have a great mix of guards and bigs at the 1A DII level and they use a deep roster to their advantage to outlast other teams with smaller rosters. Continue reading for a breakdown of a few players to watch during the 2020-21 season.
Clay Silva, 2022: Clay is a great guard for the Lions who does a little bit of everything on the court. He can drive to the hoop and finish around the rim, and is also a gifted shooter who can knock down the open shot every time. Silva is a high energy player who plays hard on defense and is willing to guard the opposing team’s best player. He can go for days and provides lots of energy for the Lions when they need it most. I expect Clay to expand his role for Lighthouse Christian this season after the departure of a handful of seniors who contributed big minutes and lots of scoring. Silva has more than enough potential to lead the Lions and the 2020-21 season will show what he is made of.
Collin Holloway, 2021: Holloway is one of the best shooters in the state, no question. He has in-the-gym range and can shoot off the dribble, off of a down screen, catch-and-shoot, and any other way when he feels that he is open. Collin also has tons of confidence in his shot and it is rare to see a game where he only knocks down one or two three-pointers. Beyond his shooting ability, Collin draws the defense on closeouts and can drive past them before finishing well around the hoop. Holloway is a great guard for the Lions and I would love to see his passing and assist numbers increase this season. Look for Holloway to have an expanded role this season at Lighthouse Christian as they make a push to return to the state championships and a shot at the title.
