But give Coach Mike Anderson credit he went right back to Long Island and got the Johnnies, Long Island Lutheran 6”7 ( 2021) Drissa Traore. Starting with Norm Roberts, one of the knocks on the Red Storms recruiting process was, they were not keeping players in their own backyard. Chris Mullin was having some luck with it, but the players weren’t turning out. With the signing of Drissa it is showing the fan base, that he will keep these players home. Everybody knows the city , however there is some high talent in other areas of New York. Long Island is one of them. There isn’t loads of D 1 guys but they are studs when you find them.
Long Island Lutheran has been very successful for a while now. The 2020 class sent 3 players to established D1 programs. Kacper Klaczek, Rafael Andres Pinzon, Jayden Reid. Plus real interest for Jaxon Koroll and Paul Jordan.
Drissa Traore is not only a infectious leader on the court he is tremendous individual. The Luhi staff says he is always positive. The consummate teammate. When you have his ability and talent and combine that with his energy St Johns has quietly struck gold. He fits the style that coach Anderson teaches and that is one of the things that convinced Drissa that the Jamaica N Y campus was for him. He is a freak athlete. A rim protector that coach can play in the back of the press. But he a athletic enough to play up on the ball. Can score with both hands around the rim. Working on improving his three point shot. Has a huge upside and brings a lot of intangibles to the floor. The Luhi staff compare him to a guy who did pretty well in the Big East years ago Hakeem Warrick. I think St Johns would be pretty happy with that. Illinois, Fordham, Umass, Stony Brook were some of his early offers. But in the end, the style of play, the Big East was just to much for Drissa to pass up.
