With some many highly-touted’s on hand, the rosters were packed with head-turners, let’s look at it from club to club during Saturday’s entertaining slate.
AC Georgia 17U
RJ Noord RJ Noord 6'3" | CG Heritage-Conyers | 2021 State GA (PG, 6-3, Heritage-Conyers) – Noord has clearly been someone who has taken the bull by the horns during this unusual offseason, improving his body and also his skills, he has noticeably slowed his game down from when I saw him last regular season where he was an eye-catcher playing alongside James White James White 6'5" | SG Heritage-Conyers | 2021 State #182 Nation GA but occasionally a bit erratic and overly-paced, the improvements haven’t taken anything away from his explosiveness but has added to his PG IQ and made him a more diverse weapon, already with good size for the next level there aren’t many weaknesses to point out, he’s physical enough to both play off the ball and to guard it, and with a deadly shooting eye he can certainly slide over and be very effective.
Mannie Harris (PG, 6-2, Mitchell County) – Harris continues to display the kind of game which is hard to miss, possesses a deft handle, explosiveness both off the deck and out in space and great energy and enthusiasm, his elite defensive skills are enough to stand out, but also an ability to really take over a game in spurts is an asset which separates him, there hasn’t been an outing this summer where I’ve seen him and he hasn’t impressed me, it would be shocking if coaches watching the livestreams haven’t been jotting his name down for check-ins or potential offers often.
Ian Davis Ian Davis 6'3" | SG Discovery | 2021 State GA (SG, 6-3, Discovery) – I’m always impressed with Discovery players, there’s just something about the way they play and it likely stems from the program culture in Lawrenceville, they are tough, well-drilled and savvy and Davis personifies that, to go with that he’s got a beautiful shooting stroke that will travel well and a ton of confidence to go with it, I like his willingness to mix it up going to the basket and he has more than enough lift to hit the glass from the 2-spot, think he will garner more and more attention and be a big part of the any Titans success with most of their roster back from last season.
Joseph Scott Joseph Scott 6'7" | PF Denmark | 2021 State GA (PF, 6-7, Denmark, pictured above right) – Scott’s offseason and summer work has been evident and he’s set to make a big jump in his senior year, with Robert Cowherd Robert Cowherd 6'5" | SG Southern California Academy | 2022 #77 Nation CA-S off to Grayson HS, Scott will be counted on for more offense and he’s added to his athletic inside game with an improved jump shot, he already is a monster glass cleaner who can get easy buckets at the offensive end and be a game controller on the defensive end, that face-up shooting game will be key to what kind of looks he’ll attract, but there’s still plenty of firepower for the Danes to join with Scott as the school heads to 7A with high hopes after a stellar 4A season in ’19-20.
Josh Reed Josh Reed 6'6" | SF Pace Academy | 2022 State #200 Nation GA (SF, 6-6, Pace Academy, pictured above left) – Reed had a nice showing at LakePoint’s Live Showcase in July, and he may not have been a centerpiece in the game I saw them against Upward Select, but the 2022 product who’s been playing up all summer has got a growing all-around game which bears notice, he’ll be just one of many pieces for a nationally-ranked Pace team this coming winter, but even with all that other marquee senior-talent alongside he’ll have a chance to show his athletic gifts, soft mid-range shooting touch and high motor and smarts.
