Tomorrow is August.

I have done my best to cover as many players in the South Florida area over the last few months. Yet, there are still prospects that have been working hard this summer that I have not seen. I am certain I have passed by kids on the blacktop that are going to make contributions on a high school roster in the fall.

I want to give a special shout-out to those kids who have been putting in the work in this high humidity and 90- degree heat. Your efforts are going to pay off in due time.

For now...I would like to highlight more kids that have gotten my attention. As always, if you have a player you feel I should recognize, feel free to message me on one of my socials below.

Matthew Mantro - Western (Davie)

Mantro is a intriguing prospect out of Western in Davie. I have seen him at local courts in the area working on his game over the summer. The 2023 has a good skill set as a point guard with room to improve. Mantro has solid quickness to get to the basket and a reliable mid-range shot. As he gets stronger, Mantro will become more difficult to defend as he takes on contact in traffic. The upcoming sophomore already has a solid base to finish with either hand when he gets to the rim. Additionally, his development as a shooter can elevate him as a dependable two guard. Mantro has been working hard at crafting his 3-point shot. With that in his arsenal, Mantro is going to be difficult for any player to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id="709229" first="David" last="Delancy"] IV - Somerset Academy

Big guards are hard to come by. 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709229" first="David" last="Delancy"] IV already has it as he stands 6-foot-4. Combining his athletic ability with his size makes him a dangerous prospect. Delancy IV has the length and quickness to get past smaller guards. Moreover, bigger defenders are going to have a tough time staying in-front of him. Delancy is going to increase his stock once he develops as an all-around shooter. The upcoming sophomore showed glimpses of his outside shooting last season. Against Pine Crest, Delancy scored 17 points while knocking down four 3-pointers. Additionally, his reach advantage should have him clean up on the boards for easy put backs.

[player_tooltip player_id="814917" first="Isaiah" last="Nesmith"] - Benjamin School

2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814917" first="Isaiah" last="Nesmith"] is another player with impressive size at his position. The 6-foot-4 guard averaged 9.4 points and 3.8 rebounds for the Benjamin School. Included in that average was a 17-point effort against Cardinal Newman and a 15-point mark against Dade Christian. Going forward, I would like to see him become more consistent as a shooter and overall player. Nesmith had a string of efficient shooting performances early on last season. His athleticism alone will create rebounding opportunities that will lead to high percentage baskets. Additionally, Nesmith has good vision as a passer with players like 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="829401" first="Mark" last="Cueto"] and 2023 [player_tooltip player_id="962554" first="Darrell" last="Sweeting"] around him. Watch out for him on the gridiron as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="962525" first="Tony" last="Woodi"]e - Oxbridge Academy

Woodie is a player I am projecting to be a reliable big in the very near future. The 2023 power forward currently stands at 6-foot-4 and will put on more size as he gets into the weight room. As a freshman, Woodie grabbed five or more rebounds in eight games. Once he fills out a bit more I think you can count on him in the post. I will keep an eye out on him as I am interested to see his development.

[player_tooltip player_id="818869" first="Christopher" last="George"] - Royal Palm Beach

[player_tooltip player_id="818869" first="Christopher" last="George"] has been putting up numbers for Royal Palm Beach. In reality, he is less of a sleeper as a talent that is underrated. The 2021 wing averaged 12.5 points and 10.8 rebounds last season. Moreover, George is an excellent shooter with multiple games shooting over 60 percent from the field. Against Jensen Beach, the rising senior knocked down 13 shots on 19 attempts to finish with a season-high 27 points. Additionally, George is an excellent rebounder as he stands 6-foot-7. Against Inlet Grove, George grabbed 19 rebounds, including a ridiculous 13 on the offensive end. He should help Royal Palm Beach improve on its 14-10 record from last season.
