Here were some of the top 17Us from play Sunday:
Mason Martinson, Pentagon Schoolers Kraning
Martinson really provided a spark throughout the day for Schoolers Kraning. He consistently pushed the tempo and kept his team on the attack. His outside shot looked excellent in catch-and-shoot situations and his ability to create his own shot or shots for his teammates in the halfcourt was a big plus.
Alex Huber, ND Attack
Huber looked better and better the more he played over the weekend and on Sunday, he had some terrific moments. He looked assertive and explosive attacking the rim. His outside shot didn’t fall consistently but he compensated for it by not settling later in the tournament. His ability to hang athletically was on display, as he rebounded at a high level and showed he can create his own shot and finish against tough competition.
Carson Lamp, ECI Prospects
Lamp isn’t flashy, but he’s rock solid in just about every facet of the game. He has excellent strength and uses it to create his shot in the halfcourt against longer defenders. He’s a heady playmaker who does a good job controlling the tempo. And ECI plays multiple point guards at all times, so Lamp ends up guarding up against opposing lineups, and does it effectively.
Wyatt Enno, ND Phenom
Enno looked tentative at times during play Saturday – rust is a factor given he missed his whole junior year with an injury – but he was excellent Sunday, showcasing all the skills that make him one of the better players in North Dakota’s 2021 class. He’s smooth off the dribble, can finish over length, scores efficiently in the mid-range and is an excellent passer. His defensive versatility was also on display as he showed he can guard four positions well.
Carter Renz, ECI Selects
Renz looked excellent Sunday for ECI Selects, utilizing his length especially on the defensive end of the floor. He’s an athletic, active wing defender who did a good job putting pressure on the passing lanes, contesting shots and limiting dribble penetration. He’s solid as an off-ball cutter and spot-up shooter on the offensive end of the floor.
Noah Swenson, Pentagon Schoolers Kraning
Swenson is a rough and tumble, rugged big man who looked terrific on the defensive end of the floor. He does a great job battling for post position and limiting easy touches from opposing post players. He rebounds everything in his area, sets solid screens and has solid footwork in the low post.
Tyler Thilmony, ND Attack
Thilmony did a great job providing a spark for ND Attack, routinely attacking the paint and either finishing in traffic or setting up his teammates for easy shots. The Mandan product seemed comfortable handling ball pressure and was a calming influence in a hectic environment.
Max Tschosik, ND Phenom
Tschosik is a pure floor general who does a great job controlling the pace of the game, making the right decisions, being in good positions defensively and knocking down open shots. He might not put up huge numbers, but his strength is that he’s a positive influence on both ends of the floor.
Collin Rentz, Pentagon Schoolers Kraning
Rentz provides some serious juice for Schoolers Kraning, using his speed, explosiveness and skill to score from all over the floor. He’s a good shooter, an excellent slasher and very good in transition. His competitiveness on the defensive end of the floor was a big plus as well, as his defensive pressure helped up the tempo.
