It is hard to keep track of the number of players I have profiled in recent months. The past couple of weeks have been particularly active as players have moved around before the start of the school year.

This is a competitive region for high school basketball. I get the feeling despite all of the state championships that come out of this area, the reputation of play still has an underrated feeling. While South Florida has traditional powers, I am starting to see other schools compete at a higher level.

Let’s keep the trend moving upward with these next group of players...

[player_tooltip player_id="714808" first="Craig" last="Starks"] - Mater Lakes Academy

2021 [player_tooltip player_id="714808" first="Craig" last="Starks"] moves over to Mater Lakes Academy after playing for Miami Beach. The 6-foot-7 forward adds depth to a loaded Bears squad coached by Lance Tejada. The 225-pounder has the strength to body down on smaller opponents and finish with either hand at the rim. Moreover, Starks has a lean frame to power past bigger defenders and get into the paint for a rack attack. Additionally, Starks has the footwork and body control to be an efficient scorer around the cylinder. The rising senior will bring a ton of versatility on both ends of the floor when he is inserted into the Bears lineup. Against North Miami Beach, Starks scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Starks is going to make smart decisions with the ball in his hands and will be a double-double threat for his new team while shooting well over 50 percent from the field.

Edward Nnamoko - Riviera Prep

2022 Edward Nnamoko gives Riviera Prep another weapon in its arsenal. The Bulldogs already deploy 2023 Osmar Garcia Araujo and 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="814913" first="Esteban" last="Lluberes"] on a team that went 24-7 last season. The 6-foot-9 center will bring added depth to the Bulldogs front line as a strong rebounder and rim protector. Furthermore, Nnamoko should benefit with buckets under the basket with Garcia Aruajo drawing a lot of attention. Look for a lot of dishes in the paint off drives from Lluberes as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="709251" first="Nate" last="Sasser"] - Suncoast Chargers

2023 [player_tooltip player_id="709251" first="Nate" last="Sasser"] moves up the Florida coast after playing for Grandview Prep in Boca Raton last season. Sasser has elite size at 6-foot-6 and deadly quickness in the back-court. The Chargers are getting a player who should average 14 points, five assists and five rebounds on any given night. Suncoast also brings in 2024 guard Stone Bureau and forward Ian Smikle.

[player_tooltip player_id="814915" first="Faheim" last="Meran"] - Miramar Patriots

Meran is not moving around like the others, but the 2022 point guard is going to be a problem here in South Florida for years to come. The 6-foot-5 Patriot averaged 9.6 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game on the schools state championship team. Meran is a prospect you can plug-in and trust to defend multiple positions on the floor. With the loss of 2020 [player_tooltip player_id="716962" first="Brent" last="Davis"], I am expecting his numbers to soar. Meran is going to have an extended role in the offense and display his shot making ability from all levels of the floor.
