The long 6-foot-4, 160-pound swingman from Sunset will be the key guy whenever Rose City Basketball gets going with club ball and next year, Reese will assume larger responsibilities for the Apollos as they enter a new era.
Last season – Reese’s first at the varsity level – he stepped right into the starting lineup and was a solid supporting cast member for a team that once again made it to the post-season.
“We came up a little short as we were looking for a bit longer of a state run, but I thought it went well and I played my role,” Reese said. “In the beginning I felt a little flustered because it was all new to me as it was faster, but over time as I got more comfortable with the team and knowing the pace of the varsity level it just became easier.”
On the year, Reese averaged 6.5 points and a team-high 4.3 rebounds. He was also the anchor inside defensively averaging almost a block per game. A long and lanky athlete, Reese is good around the basket but also has a nice touch on his jumper out to three-point range – something he’s hoping to refine more for his senior year.
“I’m definitely working on my shooting – my three-point percentage was low last year at around 28 percent,” Reese said. “And also getting to the the rim – I’m trying to be tougher down low.”
There’s been a little college recruiting buzz with Reese who notes that he’s heard from schools at all levels from Division I in Idaho State to Division III in Johns Hopkins. He’s keeping his options open although he fully admits he’s a big fan of the sun. “Anything that seems like the right fit really,” Reese said. “And somewhere warm.”
With AAU basketball on the shelf with Rose City Basketball for now, Reese is looking forward to his senior year with the Apollos as they will start the David Saultz era. “I’m actually excited,” “Saultz said he’s coming in and doing a whole new thing, switching everything up. I loved playing with the guys last year so it’s going to be a good experience.”
Reese currently ranks as the #44 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2021 rankings.
