Prospect Spotlight: Kahlil Singleton (2022 Fort Vancouver HS)

Oregon Prospects is fielding some very competitive 16U squads and it’s not just top guys from the Beaver state playing. [player_tooltip player_id="674441" first="Kahlil" last="Singleton"] resides just north of the Columbia River in Vancouver and the Fort Vancouver standout had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Trappers. Already the holder of a D-I scholarship offer, the strong 6-foot-2, 180-pound combo guard is ready to really elevate his profile this summer and fall.

This past year at Fort Vancouver, Singleton emerged as one of the top offensive threats in the Couv. One of the key individual highlights - a school record 55-point game where he sank nine threes - and on the year he ended up averaging 22 points per game.

"I felt like personally it went pretty well but it could have been better obviously since the win-loss record wasn’t in our favor," Singleton said. "But personally I improved a lot and got stronger from freshman year."

Singleton is a physical combo guard who can really put the ball in the hole in a variety of ways. He’s extremely tough off hard dribble drive moves and can finish around the rim, but also has a very soft touch from three-point range. This off-season he’s been fine-tuning his game.

"I’ve been in the weight room and hitting parks," Singleton said. "Honestly I’ve been working on everything. I’d say the most on finishes around bigger players and all that, getting more crafty."

Singleton has been squarely on the radar of college coaches. In fact while it didn’t get a ton of publicity - likely due to the rising junior’s humble nature - during this past year he received his first scholarship offer.

"Eastern Washington offered me during the season," Singleton said. "Eastern’s a great school and the Big Sky is a pretty competitive conference and this year they won it. Shantay (Legens), Bobby (Suarez), all the coaches up there - they’re my guys. I talk to them pretty often."

As much as Singleton likes what he’s heard from the Eagles, he staying open in his recruitment. Other schools he notes have shown interest include Pepperdine, Seattle, Idaho State, and Yale. He’s not in any rush as he starts to sort things out.

"I still have time left," Singleton said. "Honestly I just want a place where I can play my game and be myself. I’m not really into all the hype of the big-name schools - I mean, of course going to like Oregon or Duke, all that sounds fun but I just want somewhere that’s a good fit for me."

A good fit is what the Oregon Prospects have been so far for him. Among his teammates with the Oregon Prospects are [player_tooltip player_id="787678" first="Lamar" last="Washington"] and Marquis "Mookie" Cook - two guys he’s competed with and against, and has spent plenty of time growing up with together.

"It’s fun - Lamar and Mookie are my guys," Singleton said. "We hang out all the time off the court so the chemistry is already there I feel like. I just want to win. I feel like with our group that we really shouldn’t lose. Every game is a must win, that’s how our group is going into it."

Singleton currently ranks as the #13 player in the PrepHoops Washington Class of 2022 rankings.
