The South Dakota Attack Proves to be #1. The Midwest Showdown had some of the best teams in the upper Midwest including top 15u squads from Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and other places. When the event was all done, it was the South Dakota Attack standing above all others. The biggest showing was the 49-45 win over Wisconsin Playground to open the event. This is the best 15u team in the state of Wisconsin but yet the group from South Dakota earned that win and then beat a top team from Ohio (JH1) and then out of Wisconsin in the title game.
South Dakota Attack Impress Colleges. A very important part of 17u play right now is those cameras being in the gym and who is watching on the other side of those cameras. Prep Hoops writer Collin Parker and the DWU staff likely saw the same things as Collin wrote “a high-volume scorer. He’s a smaller guard but gets his shot off quick. Primarily a shooter today and has carried his team through a quick scoring spurt” after watching Brady play and then after the event Fritz was offered by DWU. Also playing well for the Attack has been Caden Hinker Caden Hinker 6'6" | PF Mitchell | 2022 State SD who has offers from Augustana and Sioux Falls. Hinker is a 6’6 2022 forward from Mitchell.
Majok Majouk Makes a Name for Himself. Sometimes all guys need is an opportunity. And sometimes that opportunity comes when some others aren’t present. That is exactly what Majok did in Wisconsin. What I really came away with was an appreciation for how this 6-foot-7 player can get into a shot comfortably and in rhythm off a quick dribble move. Majouk also made shots with feet set, and using his quick bounce around the rim. Add in the length that allows him to block shots on the perimeter when he’s in defensive position and around the rim and you have a guy I was going to peg as a big stock riser that D2s should all be on. As I was writing this I learned that getting out ahead of others was Southwest Minnesota State who recently earned a commitment from Majok. Of course Majok plays in Iowa but he has South Dakota written on his jersey and within that jersey he has made a big name for himself.
BBA For the Win. After a one point loss to a good Wisconsin Crusaders team BBA was able to rebound and beat a long time strong program in Wisconsin, the Blizzard. Two guys that stood out this weekend were Koor Kuol Koor Kuol 6'4" | SF SF Roosevelt | 2021 State SD of SF Roosevelt and Joe Lynch of SF O’Gorman. Kuol and Lynch are both 6-foot-4 small forwards and although they have different games both made a strong impression for BBA. And making a name for themselves as we look forward to next winter.
This Weekend! What’s the next big event for South Dakota teams? That is this weekend in Council Bluffs, Iowa. BBA Force, South Dakota Attack, and South Dakota Network, three times that have honored the state of South Dakota with impressive performances already this July, will do battle with impressive teams at the Hard Work SZN Classic. Team RWA out of Chicago is known for a high major player each year, the Colorado Titans won multiple 17u events last year against the best teams in Cali and Arizona, Lincoln Supreme out of Nebraska has scholarship talent, and there are several other top squads from eight different states. At the 16u level the top team in South Dakota, the South Dakota Venom, will be joined by another top South Dakota team, the Attack. Then at the 15u level, the South Dakota Attack will look for a second straight weekend title.
