We’re back at it again with the weekly recruiting report and while there wasn’t an overwhelming amount of news, we saw some announcements from prospects in the Baltimore area that created waves. Let’s get right to it!

COMMITS

2020 Mervo forward [player_tooltip player_id="832901" first="Elijah" last="Rantin"] committed to Goldey Beacom. The Lighting struck gold with Rantin, a 6-foot-9 forward who has improved drastically over the past two years. He comes with tremendous size and length for the Division II level and once he puts time in the weight room with the strength and conditioning coach, his game will go to new levels. While at Mervo, Rantin was a strong finisher above the rim, an efficient free-throw shooter, an elite shot-blocker, a controlling rebounder and displayed his motor by running the floor hard and consistently. Judging by his development over the past couple of years, Rantin still has plenty of untapped potential and should enjoy a productive college career.

2020 City guard [player_tooltip player_id="900235" first="Dominick" last="Carrington"] will do a post-grad prep year at Virginia Beach Sports Academy. VBSA is making connections with prospects in the Baltimore area as Carrington’s teammate, 2021 forward [player_tooltip player_id="902017" first="Clarence" last="Obiajulu"], will also attend in the fall. At 5-foot-10, Carrington built the reputation of being one of the top sharpshooters in the DMV. Having one more season with open recruitment should allow enough time for Division I and Division II programs to track Carrington’s progress.

2020 Poly guard Jahsiah Lamothe will also do a post-grad prep year at VBSA. The best way to describe Lamothe is a ’junkyard dog.’ He’s willing to do all of the dirty work that it takes to help his team win. The 6-foot-3 guard played a role off the bench for a nationally ranked Poly team this past year, but will hope to have the opportunity to display more of his skill-set at his new school.

OFFERS

2021 Bishop Walsh guard [player_tooltip player_id="531258" first="Jalen" last="Miller"]s adds his second high major offer with Witchita State being the latest. Even without a spring or summer travel platform to evaluate, colleges are intrigued by Miller’s film, and rightfully so. Rhode Island also extended an offer to Miller in late June as he now boasts 11 total offers.

2021 Rock Creek Christian forward [player_tooltip player_id="902005" first="Zaakir" last="Williamson"] received an offer from Buffalo. The Bulls have an inroad to the DMV area and Williamson’s playing style certainly fits the bill. The 6-foot-7 forward can play inside-out while being a force as a rebounder. Williamson now holds 10 offers in total.

2021 Frederick Douglass forward [player_tooltip player_id="712751" first="Abdou" last="Samb"] has enjoyed quite the uptick in his recruitment this spring and summer and received offers from East Carolina and Rhode Island this past week. His ability to stretch the floor at 6-foot-8 is a prized characteristic in today’s game on top of the fact that he can block shots consistently. He now sits with 12 total offers.

2021 River Hill guard [player_tooltip player_id="775332" first="Nick" last="Marshall"] was offered by UNC-Wilmington. A 6-foot-4 three-level scorer, Marshall has gained steady attention from colleges since the conclusion of his high school season, picking up five of his seven total offers in that time frame.

2023 Bishop Walsh forward [player_tooltip player_id="957033" first="Malik" last="Bowman"]’s name gained traction this past week as he received offers from Georgetown and Witchita State. At 6-foot-7, the southpaw has an intriguing skill-set to go with a high ceiling that should force other high majors to start investing their time in.
