The one team who broke through was the 15U team, which defeated the INB Select 63-46 for the championship. In the semifinals, they rallied from a nine-point deficit to defeat a good Indiana Game Select 52-48 in the semifinals. They are a team with a good collection of perimeter players who really came together on defense.
Here is a look at the members of the Gateway 15U team.
Kobi Williams 6’1 Westminster: The athletic combo guard was excellent throughout the weekend at both ends of the court. He played with a nice flow with a nice 3-point stroke and the ability to break down defenders off the dribble. He also displayed some explosiveness. Very smooth and under control. He was a key member of WCA’s Class 4 state quarterfinals team as a freshman.
Jach Steinbach 5’11 Ladue: Talented young point guard who played with toughness and poise. He handled the ball well under pressure while making his share of big shots during the weekend. He helped Ladue to a district championship as a freshman.
Nick Lewis 6’1 Whitfield: An athletic young wing who with the ability to score in a variety of ways. He was knocking down 3-pointers, attacking the basket on the drive and getting offensive putbacks and transition buckets.
Zach Ortwerth 6’4 SLUH: Solid young combo forward who could get tough buckets inside, but can also dial it up from the perimeter. He also has good passing skills and he rebounded well.
Nathan Bobkiewicz 6’5 Wentzville Liberty: A strong post player with good size and a big body. He played a physical game around the basket, but he could also step out and hit a 3-pointer.
Marcus Coleman 6’2 Lutheran St Charles: A slick point guard with good size and a lot of court savvy, which one would expect from the son of a coach. He was very good getting down hill and in transition while also being able to make a Corner 3.
Mason Williams 6’0 Park Hills Central: A slashing young point guard who was at his best when he was attacking the basket on penetrating drives. He was very aggressive at both ends of the court.
Cameron Lee 6’1 Duchesne: A long and rangy combo guard who can be disruptive on defense with his length and athleticism.
