Francisco’s Finest: Pangos Best of SoCal Summer Showcase (Class of 2022/Sleepers)

LONG BEACH, CA—I felt the next time I’d be in a gym would be a surreal-like feeling—and that is exactly the case. Dinos Trigonis, who had been running events in Arizona, Utah, and Iowa—unveiled his first event in So-Cal—and it was quite good to say the least. From the playmaking abilities of Milos Uzan to an improved “big” in [player_tooltip player_id="748735" first="Henri" last="Adiassa"], the talent in the Class of 2022 was high-level.

Joel’s Take: The most explosive prospect in the event—and there were many—was Chibambe. His ball skills were solid in the open court and he showed signs of an evolving pull-up game. His jump shot needs to get smoother, but his release looks solid and he gets great lift. Now, in terms of finishers, this guy is near the top of the list and he had more explosive bang outs and finishers through contact tany any other prospect in the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="972435" first="Gabriel" last="Cummings"] (Long Beach Poly)

2022, SG, 6-foot-2, 165 pounds

Joel’s Take: While teammate [player_tooltip player_id="680212" first="Peyton" last="Watson"] got most of the headlines, Cummings hit a number of big shots for the Jackrabbits. The slick lefty has a smooth stroke from deep and his release is impeccable. He showed improved ball skills in this game and his passing prowess and overall feel for the game was noticeable.

Dowon Kim (Irvine/Beckman)

2022, PG, 5-foot-11, 155 pounds

Joel’s Take: Kim is a true point guard with a bevy of moxie. He plays a high IQ game and shows solid quickness and speed. Look-ahead passes and clever playmaking were part of his package. Overall, Kim should be one of the better junior true point guards in Orange County this season.

Joel’s Take: Quiette was part of an impressive class of freshmen at Mater Dei a couple of years ago, but the sledding has been tough early on. However, it’s not where you start, it’s where you finish and Quiette appears to trending towards the latter. His rangy frame is filling out and you can see the improved skill and fundamentals. Defensively, he stood out with exceptional lateral quickness and active hands. In addition, he looked much more confident with his ball handling, facilitating, and scoring. One to watch.
