The Inter-AC and the Catholic League get most of the attention in the Philadelphia area for basketball. Yet the public league always has top tier talent too. These 5 guards players to know

[player_tooltip player_id="990933" first="Nisine" last="Poplar"] - 6’4 CG - Math, Civics & Science/K-Low Elite (2021)

In two seasons, "Wooga" went from newborn giraffe on the court, to one of the premier players in the city. He translates his elite level bounce into athletic finishes. Nisine is a hand-full offensively because just when you think you’ve stopped him from driving, he knocks down a 3 or dishes to a cutter. His skill level is increasing exponentially. So watch expect Wooga to have a whole new arsenal of moves to generate advantages for himself and others this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="991060" first="Asim" last="Wilson"] - 6’0 CG - Friere Charter/Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs (2021)

Asim is like a human pinball the way he changes directions in the lane. Making first team National Division as a Jr, he’s comfortable manipulating the defenses using screens to clear paths for driving and passing. His craft is on full display when he’s in transition because he’s able to see the whole floor as he pushes the tempo. Asim’s game will reach a new level as he improves at executing more advanced reads when he attacks the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="990969" first="Quadir" last="Miller"] - 6’0 PG - Constitution (2021)

With his knack for getting defenders off-balance, the General’s PG contributes with his score-first mentality. Quadir is a volume shooter who comfortably finishes through contact and shoots with range because he gets wherever he wants on the court. On the other end, he’s a scrappy defender, getting underneath his opponents. As Quadir makes strides towards being a more efficient scorer, he’ll be able to fill the stat sheet in other areas (assists, rebounding, etc).

[player_tooltip player_id="991317" first="Naji" last="Reid"] - 6’0 CG - Imhotep/ Philly Pride (2022)

Naji can really fill it up. Featuring his shooting off-the-dribble, the Panther’s combo guard can score at all three levels. He was named Third team in the Independence Division because of how well he spaces the floor from 3. His mid-range is potent and he flashes some play-making ability. Imhotep lost a ton of talent over the past 2 seasons and is very young. So, while he’s an off-ball guard, his team will need him to play a bigger role in the offense.

[player_tooltip player_id="991231" first="Jacob" last="Beccles"] - 6’3 CG - Constitution (2022)

JB blends his athleticism with skill and he has the physical tools to be a good team defender. He dunks every chance he gets while going to the basket. But when he can’t, he uses creative moves for his at-rim finishes. His sophomore campaign was his breakout year. The key to Jacob making the leap from 2nd team to 1st team is his Free Throws. Improving his FT % will help him as an all around shooter, particularly from 3.
