Taking you back up north, the competition is high at the 4A level with lots of talent across the region. The 2020-21 season will see lots of close games and down-to-the-wire finishes before crowing a district champion and sending teams to the state championships. Continue reading for a breakdown of each 4A team in north Idaho.

Lakeland Hawks: The Hawks wrapped up the 2019-20 season with a 20-10 overall record and a 2-2 record in conference under head coach Trent Derrick. Lakeland graduated a bunch of seniors this past season and will look to their underclassmen to contribute big minutes in 2020-21. With a small conference schedule, each game will count for the Hawks on their quest to make a run at the 4A state championship. Watch for [player_tooltip player_id="919693" first="Carson" last="Seay"], a 6’1" guard who can score easily at all 3 levels and always has his feet set around the perimeter, and [player_tooltip player_id="921086" first="Abe" last="Munyer"], a 6’4" guard from the class of 2022 with exceptional court vision and a high assist-to-turnover ratio, to lead the Hawks.

Sandpoint Bulldogs: Sandpoint finished last season with a conference record of 0-4 and an overall record of 13-14 under head coach Wade Engelson. The Bulldogs will return the majority of their team and will look to learn from last season to improve for the 2020-21 season ahead of them. Sandpoint will definitely have a shot at making a run in their conference and could potentially make a trip to the state championships. The Bulldogs will be led by [player_tooltip player_id="923085" first="Arie" last="VanDenBerg"], a 6’0" shooter from the class of 2023 who will be a force by the time he graduates.

Moscow Bears: The 2019-20 season proved that north Idaho schools can play with anyone in the state. The Bears finished 17-10 overall and 4-0 in conference and lost to Preston in the state championship game under head coach Josh Uhrig. Moscow will look to make a return to the state championship game, but will need to make some adjustments due to a lot of graduating seniors. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="923077" first="Blake" last="Buchanan"], a 6’7" post from the class of 2023 who can do it all: a rim-protector with deep range and incredible passing skills, and [player_tooltip player_id="917694" first="Benny" last="Kitchel"], a 6’4" shooting guard with a high release and the ability to get hot in a hurry.
