The talent level in eastern Idaho has continued to increase and 2020-21 will be a battle to see who will represent the 4A from the east in the state championships.
Bonneville Bees: The 2020-21 season will look to be a season of new beginning’s for the Bees after finishing 5-5 in conference and 9-16 overall in 2019-20 under head coach John Tucker. The Bees only graduated a handful of seniors last season and will look to their underclassmen who played lots of minutes last season to lead the way. Look for Carson Johnson, a gifted scorer with a deadly left hand 3-pointer to lead the way for the Bees on their quest to return to the state championships.
Hillcrest Knights: The Knights finished the 2019-20 season with a conference record of 7-10, and an overall record of 14-18 under head coach Don Baldwin. Another team with a young roster, Hillcrest will look to their youthful experience for guidance during the season. Hillcrest will try to make a run at the state championships in this upcoming season behind Garrett Phippen, a 6’0″ energetic lefty guard with great court vision and a defensive presence, and Cooper Kesler, a 6’0″ shooting guard with a quick release and great footwork on catch-and-shoot jumpers.
Skyline Grizzlies: The Grizzlies will look for a fresh start in 2020-21 after struggling last season under head coach Clint Cornish, finishing with a 3-11 conference record and a 5-20 overall record. Skyline will return the majority of their roster and will look to improve this season for a shot at their district tournament, and hopefully, a run at the state tournament. Look for Cade Marlow, a 6’2″ shooting guard who can score at will and is never hesitant on his jumper, to lead the way for the Grizzlies in the 2020-21 season.
Shelley Russets: Shelley will look to make major improvements this season after a rough time in 2019-20, going 1-22 overall and 0-14 in conference under head coach Wally Foster. The Russets had a very young roster last season, and I won’t be surprised when this group all become seniors and their varsity experience helps push them to the top of the conference in a few short years. Watch for Jayson Pilgrim, a do-it-all player with a strong motor and great rebounding tendencies, to lead the way for the Russets this season.
