<p>For the second straight weekend, AAU basketball was played in Dallas. After a great first weekend with the Dallas Showtyme Classic, it was Great American Shootout’s turn to host a tournament at the Duncanville Fieldhouse. This tournament featured countless talented teams and I had the opportunity to take in the action on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0004.jpg?1593458595253"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1006560 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0004-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="779864" first="Imo" last="Essien"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G</strong></p> <p>Essien was arguably the best guard at the tournament regardless of age group and is one of the best point guards in the area. He is extremely quick, a good scorer, and a good distributor. Essien fills his role perfectly and was a huge part of the reason that Texas Impact 4:13 won the tournament. He also plays great defense and makes things difficult for anyone that he defends.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0009.jpg"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1006561 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0009-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="684406" first="Jalen" last="Lake"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G</strong></p> <p>Lake might be the best shooter in Dallas for the class of 2021 and he showed off his touch from downtown all weekend long. When the ball is in his hands, he is going to find a way to score regardless of who is guarding him. Lake also showed off his defense and locked down opposing guards.</p> <p><strong><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/IMG_7799-rotated.jpg"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1004236 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/IMG_7799-150x150.jpg" alt="[player_tooltip player_id=" width="150" height="150" /></a></strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="779870" first="Zhuric" last="Phelps"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G</strong></p> <p>Phelps was one of the most electrifying players in the tournament and had anyone who watched Texas Impact 4:13 on the edge of their seats. He had multiple poster-worthy dunks and is an excellent finisher. Phelps is also an excellent defender that is always locked in and ready to force a turnover.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0003.jpg?1593459056494"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1006562 alignright" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0003-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="887064" first="Jason" last="Thirdkill"] - Dallas Showtyme - F</strong></p> <p>Thirdkill is a lengthy wing that can score at all three levels. He is a good scorer in transition and excels at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. He is also a good defender that takes pride in guarding the best player on the floor.</p> <p><a href="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0006.jpg"><img class="size-thumbnail wp-image-1006563 alignleft" src="https://prephoops-uploads.s3.amazonaws.com/ph/uploads/2020/06/DSC_0006-150x150.jpg" alt="" width="150" height="150" /></a></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="884541" first="Darrius" last="Miles"] - Lone Star Elite - F</strong></p> <p>Miles is a 7’1" center that grabs anything that comes off of the rim. Although his finishing ability is not at an elite level yet, he still showed that he is an able finisher around the rim. There was no one that could match his size and he was a problem for anyone that tried to guard him in the paint.</p>
