While I personally wasn’t on site at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Long Beach, the live stream set up to cast on my 50-inch Samsung TV in my office more than sufficed for evaluation purposes.
Here are the standouts from Coastal Elite Slayers’ 77-48 victory over OC Pride.
Wayne McKinney Wayne McKinney 5'10" | PG Coronado | 2021 State CA-S , Coastal Elite Slayers – McKinney is one of the top point guards in all of Southern California, so it wasn’t surprising to see him dominate this game. The 5-foot-10 Coronado High rising senior dropped a game-high 29 points with his ability to get to the rim off the bounce and finish around and through contact. McKinney also showed his shooting chops, nailing three triples in the second half.
Alex Crawford Alex Crawford 6'6" | SF Eastlake | 2021 State CA-S , Coastal Elite Slayers – Crawford is an intriguing long-term prospect who continues to improve each time he takes the floor. The 6-foot-7 wing/forward out of Chula Vista Mater Dei is a long, wiry athlete whose perimeter skill-set is coming along nicely. Crawford hit for 16 points in this game, all coming inside the arc.
Tyson Robinson Tyson Robinson 6'0" | CG El Camino | 2021 State CA-S , Coastal Elite Slayers – Robinson didn’t make a major splash in the scoring column as he finished with seven points, but the 5-foot-11 guard showed his premier perimeter defending ability. Robinson, a rising senior at Oceanside El Camino, is a ball-hawk with quick hands, good lateral speed and plays with toughness and physicality.
Dylan Damico Dylan Damico 6'6" | PF La Habra | 2020 State CA-S , OC Pride – The 6-foot-6 unsigned senior out of La Habra put together a strong second half effort, scoring 11 of his team-high 14 points after the break. Damico led the Highlanders in scoring last season with 15.6 points per game, helping the team to 20 wins and a playoff appearance.
