For the second straight weekend, AAU basketball was played in Dallas. After a great first weekend with the Dallas Showtyme Classic, it was Great American Shootout’s turn to host a tournament at the Duncanville Fieldhouse. In the championship game for the Orange bracket, Texas Impact 4:13 defeated FOE 17U Elite 62-49.

MVP: [player_tooltip player_id="779864" first="Imo" last="Essien"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G

[player_tooltip player_id="779864" first="Imo" last="Essien"] only scored eight points but his impact on this game goes way beyond the score sheet. He is a leader for his team and gets everyone involved. Essien also controlled the pace of the game and is a good floor general. He forced multiple turnovers and played good on-ball and off-ball defense.

Play of the Game: DJ Jefferson’s dunk from Sean Mathieu

In the second half, Sean Mathieu found DJ Jefferson in transition for an alley-oop slam.

Best Offensive Performance: [player_tooltip player_id="959416" first="Kobe" last="Wiggins"] - FOE 17U Elite - G

[player_tooltip player_id="959416" first="Kobe" last="Wiggins"] was the bright spot in the FOE offense and finished with 19 points. He got to the basket with ease and fit multiple pull-up jumpers. He was almost impossible to stop when going downhill.

Best Defensive Performance: [player_tooltip player_id="779882" first="Rytis" last="Petraitis"] - Texas

Impact 4:13 - G/F

Petraitis was the best defender on either team and made multiple big plays on the defensive end. He plays tight on-ball defense, is active in passing lanes, and contests every shot attempt. Coaches, if you need a defensive stopper, Petraitis is your guy.

Best Guy off the Bench: [player_tooltip player_id="887076" first="Calaway" last="Dykes"] - Texas Impact

4:13 - G

Even though [player_tooltip player_id="887076" first="Calaway" last="Dykes"] came off the bench, he would have started on most of the other teams in the tournament. In the championship game, he showed off his shot from downtown and scored well in transition.

Best Intangibles: [player_tooltip player_id="779864" first="Imo" last="Essien"] - Texas Impact 4:13 - G

[player_tooltip player_id="779864" first="Imo" last="Essien"] was the leader for Texas Impact 4:13 and makes the game easy for his teammates. He gets to the paint whenever he wants and hits his teammates in spots that they can be successful.

Best Under-the-Radar Performance: [player_tooltip player_id="959416" first="Kobe" last="Wiggins"] - FOE 17U Elite - G

If you hadn’t heard of [player_tooltip player_id="959416" first="Kobe" last="Wiggins"], you definitely knew his name after this game. Wiggins is currently ranked as the #92 player in Texas according to Prep Hoops but he had as good of a game as anyone I saw all weekend. He gets downhill with ease and creates for his teammates. He is an all-around point guard that should not get overlooked.

Best Rebounder -[player_tooltip player_id="887065" first="Shakiru" last="Oduwenu"] - FOE 17U Elite - F

Odunewu was one of the best rebounders in the tournament regardless of age and pulled everything that came off of the rim. He is extremely strong and always boxes out. No one could compete with his size and he rebounded on both ends.

Best Shoes - [player_tooltip player_id="959418" first="Donovan" last="Hernandez"]’s Nike KD 12 Aunt

Pearl

[player_tooltip player_id="959418" first="Donovan" last="Hernandez"] rocked the KD 12 Aunt Pearl which was a coveted release last December.
