The 2023 class is just coming onto the prep basketball scene, and Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at the premier scorers, passers, rebounders, and more from the young group.

Top Scorers:

[player_tooltip player_id="953944" first="Milan" last="Momcilovic"] - Pewaukee - SF
The number one player in the class earned his stripes by scoring the ball, as Momcilvoic paced Pewaukee in points per game last year at 14.8. He’s trending towards a positionless offensive threat. At 6’6" he continues to develop his perimeter mobility and interior footwork. He doesn’t have significant flaws at this stage, but there’s room to grow and refine his skillset, which should please scouts.

John Kinzinger - De Pere - CG
Kinzinger enters the rankings as the purest backcourt scorer in the class, and it’s possible he wears that label until his senior year. The guard is electric from beyond the arc and a master at touch shots in the paint, while he also adds a sneaky aggressiveness when grabbing rebounds on defense.

Top Rebounder:

[player_tooltip player_id="981004" first="Danny" last="Kniep"] - Burlington - PF
This class has the looks of a dominant rebounding group, but statistically, Kniep shined as much as anyone. He averaged 6.6 boards a game with the most total offensive and defensive rebounds on his roster, and he finished the year with seven games at nine or more rebounds.

Top Passers:

[player_tooltip player_id="951132" first="Braylen" last="Blue"] - Madison Memorial - PG
After playing a handful of games on varsity, Blue dropped down to JV for the second half of his freshman season at Sun Prairie. With a long leash for creativity and playmaking, Blue made facilitating his number one priority. He plays with around-the-clock awareness, vetting for passing lanes or back cuts. His height only helps add to his superb vision, especially in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="951467" first="Prentice" last="Young"] - Wisconsin Lutheran - SF
Young has become a staple of my 2023 articles, so I won’t repeat much. The biggest thing to know here is that Young approached all-time records in his freshman season, as he finished tenth in single-season assists for Wisconsin Lutheran.

Highest Potential:

Robert Peters - Nathan Hale - PF
The spindly 6’7” forward weighs in at only a buck-seventy. He shows flashes in catch-and-shoot situations, defensive hustle, and timing, as well as interior scoring. His ceiling is very high, so his physical and skill progression should be followed closely in the coming years.

[player_tooltip player_id="980995" first="Deshawn" last="Webb"] - Living World Lutheran - SF
Webb isn’t a peak physical talent yet, and while he still has to smooth out some edges in his game, there’s much to like from his freshman campaign. The forward is a constant source of energy on both ends, both emotionally and skill-wise. He accelerates into transition offense whenever he sees a crease, and can finish at the rim with floaters and strong fundamental moves.
