UConn got great news on Cinco de Mayo as Patrick School big man [player_tooltip player_id="850500" first="Adama" last="Sanogo"] reclassified to the 2020 class and committed to the Huskies. The 6’9 power forward’s decision to move up is huge for head coach Danny Hurley, but it has a bigger effect on the 2021 class. Sanogo’s move makes [player_tooltip player_id="850503" first="Akoldah" last="Gak"] the new top big man in the 2021 class.

The Blair Academy big man works hard on both ends of the floor and has a nice touch around the basket. Gak is one of the top shot-blockers in the class due to his length and athleticism. He is working on his shooting range and has a good connection with point guard [player_tooltip player_id="850502" first="Jaylen" last="Blakes"].

While the Patrick School will miss Sanogo’s production, the Celtics have the talent inside to play without him. [player_tooltip player_id="850516" first="Samson" last="Johnson"] was a consistent performer for the Patrick School all season long and was rewarded with six high major offers in the month of April. The lengthy stretch-four knows how to swat shots around the rim and runs the floor as good as anybody in the class.

[player_tooltip player_id="850501" first="Bretner" last="Mutombo"] came in with Sanogo and [player_tooltip player_id="850498" first="Jonathan" last="Kuminga"], but was unable to have the same impact as his teammates after he sat out due to transfer rules. The 6’11 big man can score in the post and is a solid rebounder. Mutombo should get more touches down low, which should help the Patrick School in 2020-21.

[player_tooltip player_id="900303" first="Chris" last="Jiao"] may not be the biggest name in the 2021 class, but he may be the Patrick School big man who benefits the most from Sanogo’s reclassification. The 6’11 center has the range to stretch the defense and is a tough rebounder down low. Jiao has the talent to play at a high major level and should get the chance to prove that with more of a featured role.

Camden’s [player_tooltip player_id="850504" first="Ta’Quan" last="Woodley"] joins the top five with Sanogo’s move up and does not look like he is going to relinquish his spot there. The 6’7 forward works hard on both ends of the floor and is one of the top rebounders in the class. Woodley is a good shot-blocker and has a nice touch around the basket.

Dover’s [player_tooltip player_id="900333" first="Rafael" last="Castro"] may be more of a combo forward, but his stock is on the rise after a dominant junior campaign. The 6’9 forward led the state in rebounding to go along with over four blocked shots a game. Castro has a nice touch around the rim and can also handle the ball on the perimeter. His ability to play inside and out makes him one of the most intriguing forward candidates in the 2021 class.

Bishop Eustace’s [player_tooltip player_id="850520" first="Christian" last="Tomasco"] is another skilled big man who can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket. The 6’9 forward runs the floor hard and knows how to move off the ball. Tomasco can block shots around the rim and can finish through traffic.

The 2021 class is filled with solid big men who can make an impact on the next level. The 2020-21 season should be exciting as the post players duke it to be the top one in the class.
