In Louisiana, the amount of signings and commitments has been slow but steady. The last couple of weeks have seen commits place their names on the dotted line and others finally make a decision on a school. We will look at who were the latest signees and commits at the various collegiate levels.

Division I & Division II

Most of the Division I signees in Louisiana made their decisions during the early signing period in November.  The latest player to join the list of Division I commits is Scotlandville combo guard Taireon "Scootah" Joseph (pictured above).  Joseph is going to be an Austin Peay Governor and will be playing in the Ohio Valley conference.  He will be taking his championship mentality to a team that is on the rise in the OVC.

Division III & NAIA Division I

Division III and NAIA Division I have had a history of providing a popular landing spot of Louisiana preps in the past.  State schools and neighboring schools in Texas have proven that Louisiana preps can excel at the next level. The latest examples were the signees and commits from the last couple of weeks.

4A state champion Peabody had two members of their championship team, Kaijalon Smith Kaijalon Smith 6'0" | CG Peabody | 2020 State LA (6’0’) and Andrew Pearson Andrew Pearson 6'5" | PF Peabody | 2020 State LA (6’5"), sign with Paul Quinn in Dallas.  This will give them conference games close to home with an annual visit to Alexandria playing LSUA.  DJ Morgan DJ Morgan 6'7" | PF Episcopal | 2020 State LA , from Division III state  runner-up Epsicopal, will take his talents down interstate 10 to Xavier-New Orleans.  Finally, NCAA Division III member Louisiana College inked Branthony Brown Branthony Brown 6'5" | SF Lakeside | 2020 State LA (6’5"/Lakeside) and Jamal Davis Jamal Davis 5'11" | PG Ouachita Parish | 2020 State LA (5’11"/Ouachita) as new members of their team.

NJCAA

The junior college ranks have seen more and more commits and signees from the 2020 class.  That trend continued on last week.  Unranked senior Jazz Provo (5’7"/Plaquemine) and Brayden Thompson Brayden Thompson 6'6" | PF Airline | 2020 State LA (6’6"/Airline) will play at Allen CC in the midwest while 3x state champion Kalep Crane Kalep Crane 6'0" | CG Simsboro | 2020 State LA (6’1"/Simsboro) will play in Arizona at Cochise College.  Thompson will also get a chance to play baseball as well at his new school.  St Augustine senior D’mari Wiltz (6’2") will play in Texas at Howard College.  5A state champion Latrell Holly Latrell Holly 6'1" | SG Alexandria | 2020 State LA (6’2"/Alexandria) will play with a brand new program at Spoon RIver College (Illinois).  White Castle post Keyon Giror (6’6") will begin his collegiate career at Delgado CC.

Decisions are still being made in reference to colleges.  Top players like Collin Holloway Collin Holloway 6'6" | SF Port Allen | 2020 State LA  (6’6"/Port Allen), Byron Joshua Byron Joshua 5'10" | PG Crescent City | 2020 State LA (5’10"/Crescent City) and Kentrell Garnett Kentrell Garnett 6'1" | SG Catholic | 2020 State LA  (6’2"/Catholic) are still exploring their options while players like Terrian Roy Terrian Roy Terrian Roy 6'2" | CG Ville Platte | 2020 State LA (6’2"/Ville Platte) and Darrell Washington Darrell Washington 6'8" | C LaGrange | 2020 State LA (6’8"/Lagrange) will take the prep school route.  Look for more players in the 2020 class will continue to make decisions as we draw to an official end of the 2019-2020 school year.
