Prep Hoops West Virginia released its inaugural 2021 class rankings this week and the updated list features 75 players.

Here Prep Hoops takes a look at the top four combo guards in the class of 2021 in WV.

[player_tooltip player_id="977496" first="Brayon" last="Freeman"] - Huntington Prep 2021

Freeman, a 6’2” CG, from the DMV had a great first year at Huntington Prep. Freeman is a great scorer. If he wants a bucket, he’s going to get it. He is able to finish at the rim, use the floater to finish over bigger defenders, has a good mid range pull up and shoots the 3 ball well. Freeman has a good handle and that allows him to play either guard spot. He has solid court vision and passing. He is by far the best defender in the 2021 class in WV. He makes ball handlers extremely uncomfortable and causes many turnovers and forced or rushed shots. He is able to guard 1-3 even while being 6’2” and not overly strong due to his elite quickness and toughness. Freeman is one of the most underrated players in the country! High major D1 player for sure.

[player_tooltip player_id="977502" first="Brandon" last="Brown"] - Teays Valley 2021

Brown, a 6’2” CG, from Tennessee had a good first year at Teays Valley. Brown completely caught me off guard in my first time seeing him play at the BigShots WV event in October. His athleticism blew me away as he does not look like someone who will rise up and dunk on somebody. Brown also has a good skillset and understanding of the game though, too. He is a solid shooter from mid range and 3 and is able to shoot it off the dribble. He is a very willing passer, but is best used as a secondary distributor. He is at his absolute best when he’s going to the bucket. He is a very good finisher and is able to finish over much bigger players. Defensively, he does a good job containing his man and contesting every shot. Low major D1’s need to be on this kid!

[player_tooltip player_id="977508" first="Mason" last="Pinkett"] - George Washington 2021

Pinket, a 6’2” scoring guard, had a very good year at GW. He left off right where Bunky Brown did the season before. Pinkett tore his ACL last year and as such missed most of last season. Pinkett can score the ball from all 3 levels. He shoots the mid range pull up very well, shoots the 3 ball well off the catch and is effective with either hand when penetrating. Pinkett is a good ball handler and has solid passing and court vision. Defensively, he does a good job at keeping his man in front of him and is always in the right spot. Pinkett is also a good positional rebounder. Low major D1’s and D2’s need to be on him.

[player_tooltip player_id="977525" first="Xavier" last="Pryor"] - Morgantown 2021

Pryor, a 6’2” CG, is someone whose game I really like. He is able to play either guard spot, although at Morgantown he exclusively plays point guard. He finishes very well and is fearless when going to the basket. He is a solid jump shooter and is able to shoot from mid range and 3. He is very unselfish and will make the extra pass when necessary. Pryor has solid vision and has great accuracy on his passes. On defense is where I love this kid though. He is relentless, he is always pressuring the ball and never gives up even when he gets beat. Pryor is able to guard either guard spot and does it well. D2 schools should definitely jump on him.
