Spring updates to rankings find several of the top players in Northeast Kansas in the ranks. While there are just 63 players currently ranked from the 2022 class, a good number of ranked players come from the region.

Here’s a look at the 2022s in the rankings:

4 Joao Carlos Ramirez, forward, Seabury:

The 6-foot-7 junior-to-be is a double-double machine. He’s long and athletic and disruptive, but he’s more than just a big guy. He passes well and is developing his offensive game. He tallied 26 against Lyndon in the sub-state final. He’s part of a loaded group at Seabury that will continue to dominate in 2A.

23 [player_tooltip player_id="891912" first="Nahcs" last="Wahwassuck"], guard, Royal Valley:

Wahwassuck has already established himself as one of the best small-schoolers in Northeast Kansas. He’s been a team-leader for two years, having been voted first-team all-league as a freshman. As a sophomore he was one of the best players in the region. The 6-foot-4 floor general can do it all. He led the Panthers to a 19-1 regular season mark by scoring 16.6 points per game. But his game is well-rounded, and with his size, he’s a matchup nightmare. Look for Wahwassuck to be one of the state’s best players the next two seasons.

26 [player_tooltip player_id="891916" first="Noah" last="McCullough"], guard, Ottawa:

The 6-foot-1 guard played in the shadow of seniors [player_tooltip player_id="958332" first="Kobe" last="Johnson"] and [player_tooltip player_id="885572" first="Cade" last="Gollier"]. But he earned Frontier League honorable mention for the Cyclones. Not needed to score a ton, he was efficient, shooting 60% from the field. He averaged 9 points and led the team with 7.5 boards a game. His diverse game saw him average 2.6 assists and 2.1 steals as well. With Johnson and Gollier no longer in the lineup, watch for McCullough to become one of the best in the Frontier League.

38 [player_tooltip player_id="891923" first="Mason" last="Thomas"], forward, Royal Valley:

Thomas doesn’t grab a ton of headlines at Royal Valley. Not with follow sophomores Wahwassuck and Brady Klotz and junior Brevin Canady sharing the spotlight. But Thomas played a huge role in helping the Panthers go 19-1 in the regular season. He’s 6-foot-3 and can play the wing or mix it up inside. His defense will be significant as the Panthers return one of the most talented 3A teams in the state.

46 [player_tooltip player_id="891930" first="Reese" last="Holaday"], guard, Holton:

The 6-foot-1 guard is a sweet shooter who didn’t score a ton as a sophomore. He mainly was a support to all-Big Seven performer Kale Purcell. But he was the Wildcats’ second leading rebounder and averaged 6.4 points per game. Watch for him to get many more opportunities next year.
