The 2019-20 season has come and gone, and each year we see different players rise up and take on expanded roles for their respective teams. Sometimes freshmen are able to step in right away and make a big impact. Older players take on a bigger role.

For the class of 2021, this upcoming year is huge. Not only is it their final year of high school basketball, but it’s also one more shot at showcasing their game for college coaches.

Here’s a few players I’ve been able to watch this year who could take a big step forward as a senior.

1. [player_tooltip player_id="944342" first="Kyle" last="Frelow"] – Heritage Christian

Frelow is bursting with potential. He had a very strong junior year that saw him pick up a few Division 1 offers. He is a walking double-double threat. He is a strong inside scorer who can finish well at the rim and it’s tough to keep him off the glass. He has great defensive instincts; can stay with players on the drive and contest their shot. Plays with a ton of energy and hustle.

2. Sanya Soukchareon – Westminster

When I first saw Soukchareon play, what stood out the most to me was his ability to shoot. He is a knockdown shooter from the three-point line. He’s got a very quick release, making it tough for defenders to rush back to him when he’s open. Spots up well behind the arc and is always ready to catch a pass from teammates.

3. [player_tooltip player_id="680225" first="Barry" last="Wilds"] Jr. – Fairfax

Wilds could be considered undersized, but don’t let that fool you. He’s a very tough minded guard who is always looking to make the right play whether that’s a score or a pass. He’s a solid shooter from midrange and the three-point line. He’s also a good playmaker who finds his teammates. Decent rebounder for a guard, can sky in and snag rebounds from bigger players.

4. [player_tooltip player_id="680224" first="Damion" last="McDowell"] – St. Bernard

McDowell is one of the most versatile and active players I’ve seen. He’s made big improvements as a junior. Offensively, he’s able to put the ball on the floor and make plays. At the rim, he goes up strong and draws contact. Can step out and shoot now from midrange. Very strong rebounder who gets put-backs and second shot opportunities. Versatile defender who can guard multiple positions.
