Continue ReadingThe signing period is upon us and several coaches are still looking for that diamond in the rough. By many metrics, this has already been a tremendous year for local scholarship players, with over 20 players receiving basketball scholarships. Looks like the well’s not dry, as there are still several worthy prospects available throughout the state. In this article, a follow up to U.S Part II, we take a look at the next crop of available unsigned seniors.
Noah Mason Noah Mason 6'5" | SF Desert Valley Prep | 2020 State NV 6’5 SF Desert Valley Prep (#20) – I have to get the entire story behind Mason, but he’s clearly a player. The Texas transfer is a big strong shooter. Prototypical wing guy with the frame and skill set to fit in somewhere. Right now looks like he is headed in the Juco direction.
Zarius Benson-Moore Zarius Benson-Moore 6'4" | SG Canyon Springs | 2020 State NV 6’5 SG Canyon Springs (#30) – ZBM is a player. He has the physical tools, and he produced in his one season at Canyon Springs. True sleeper type. He’s a good R&J athlete and showed the ability to shoot the 3 consistently. His biggest issue was adjusting to transferring from Georgia for one year. He had planned to play as an unsigned senior during the Spring, with that option off the table, he would be a talented pick up for someone.
Mehki Walker Mehki Walker 6'5" | PF Cimarron | 2020 State NV 6’4 PF Cimarron (#38) – Walker went largely under the radar this season. Cimarron didn’t have the best year, and he was plagued with nagging injuries. When healthy, however, he is an undersized post, that plays with quickness and explosion. Good leaper that gets off the floor well to protect the rim and grab rebounds. His size is an issue, however defensively he can guard wings, if he manages to stretch out his offensive game, he could develop into a nice juco pick up.
Thomas Steele Thomas Steele 6'4" | PF Churchill County | 2020 State NV 6’5 PF Churchill County (#45) – Steele is a bruising PF that helped lead Churchill to back to back 3A state titles. I like winners and he certainly is that. Steele excels in his role of rebounding and low post scoring, max effort type who never takes off plays. D3, juco type that could be productive as an undersized post.
Elijah Jackson Elijah Jackson 6'0" | PG Churchill County | 2020 State NV 6’0 PG Churchill County (#28) – Speaking of winners there’s Jackson. His skillset speaks for itself, quick, and explosive R&J athlete. Good enough shooter to keep you honest, and creative with the pass off the dribble to set up teamates. While his skill set is impressive, it’s his clutch that has him certified, evident by his back to back state championship-winning buzzer-beaters.
