Prep Hoops has released its latest Colorado class of 2022 rankings update based on the 2019-20 season. The 2022 class is an interesting one as we had a significant shakeup in the Top-5 as well as plenty of movement throughout the rest of the rankings while adding prospects as well. Here, we focus on some of the classes’ newest additions to the rankings.
Brock Mishak Brock Mishak 6'3" | CG Fossil Ridge | 2022 State CO – Fossil Ridge
Mishak is a player that is making his rankings debut and is a player to watch moving forward as he is an explosive combo-guard that can score in bunches. For Fossil Ridge, although the offense was not centered around him, he made sure that he was a consistent contributor. With the emergence of Mishak as a scorer, what it does it open up the rest of the offense for other players as he is a bigger guard that makes plays for teammates but also can rebound from the off-guard and wing spot at times. Mishak averaged 10.6 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists as a sophomore, but what you got to see was a player find his rhythm and spot in the offense by seasons end. Misha will undoubtedly be a player that Fossil Ridge implements into the offense next season, and the Sabercats will have an exciting three-headed trio. Mishak is the No.29 ranked player in the class.
Luke Hutto Luke Hutto 6'3" | SF Montrose | 2022 State CO – Montrose
Montrose is a team that turned plenty of heads this year as they racked up win after win. Montrose finished off the year with 20-5 and went into the state tournament with some momentum. Montrose went 7-1 in league play and represented the Southwest Conference, and their best player was only a sophomore. Luke Hutto Luke Hutto 6'3" | SF Montrose | 2022 State CO was his name, and he’s got next. Hutto is a 6’2 forward that rebounds well in bunches, jumps over defenders, and can start the fastbreak. Hutto has a good feel around the rim, has a soft touch, and also a back to the basket game. There was a stretch in January where he finished in double figures in every game and also rebounded well as he has a high motor and runs the floor well. Right now, he is the No. 31 player in the class but is one that I will bank on surely rising.
Hugo Veloso Hugo Veloso 5'9" | CG Fort Collins | 2022 State CO – Fort Collins
Point guard, Hugo Veloso Hugo Veloso 5'9" | CG Fort Collins | 2022 State CO , is making his rankings debut after averaging 11.2 points a game last season for Fort Collins. He was the second-leading scorer on the team and will be tasked with leading a team that got rid of plenty of seniors. Now with the spotlight on him, he will have to shine. Veloso is a shifty point that has an improving shot and can shoot the 3-pointer, creates shot for himself and others, and also plays the passing lanes as well as anybody in the league. He has excellent timing, anticipates where the offensive player is going and times when to go after it. A balanced guard that works hard on both ends, as well as helping on the boards is a good sign of a player that is willing to grow. Veloso made an impact on varsity and jumps onto the list with the No.35 spot.
Taveon Long Taveon Long 6'1" | CG Overland | 2022 State CO – Hinkley
Taveon Long Taveon Long 6'1" | CG Overland | 2022 State CO is a player that more people will get to know as I surely think he steps up this season for the ThunderBirds. Long battled off and on with injuries this season, but when he returned at the end of the season and played, he showed out. Long is a combo-guard with good size that gets to the rim as easy as anyone else. The lefty finishes at the basket and also is a ball-handling playmaker that scores in bunches. Long finished in double figures in a few games and rebounded well as a plus defender that can guard multiple positions. He is an athletic guard that matches opposing teams with his size, strength, and speed. Long put up five points and rebounds a game as a spark plug off of the bench, and next year I think he becomes more involved for Hinkley. For now, he is No.46 in the class.
Trey Reese Trey Reese 6'2" | SF Montrose | 2022 State CO – Montrose
Trey Reese Trey Reese 6'2" | SF Montrose | 2022 State CO was another underclassmen piece for Montrose, and when you look at their team, they seem to be set up for the future. Montrose was good last year and had a solid bunch from top to bottom, and a player that stood out was their sophomore combo-guard, Reese. Reese is a player that is not afraid to shoot and does not turn down open shots as he finds creative ways to score. He also is one of the most all-around players that the Indians had this season as he averaged 6.4 boards and 4.6 assists a game while being one of the best perimeter defenders on the team as well. Being able to do all of the things that the team needs like an extra rebound or bucket or stop will go a long way, and he does it. It is why Reese has jumped onto our list and on our radars as the No. 61 player in the class.
