Day one of the IHSAA Sectional Tournaments was full of excitement throughout the state. We saw everything from upsets to dominating performances to a team forgetting their uniforms and having to wear the host school’s uniforms. Now, let’s take a look at some of the top performers across the state.

[player_tooltip player_id="785239" first="Josiah" last="Ricketts"] - 2020 - North Posey

Ricketts is one of the top scorers in the state this season, and he showed that on Tuesday night. He scored his 2,000th point last week, and he scored 37 en route to North Posey’s upset win over Evansville Mater Dei. Ricketts hit a game-high 6 three-point shots and 11 free throws down the stretch to help ice the game away. If Ricketts can continue to score like this, North Posey can continue their run in the tournament.

[player_tooltip player_id="785180" first="Charlie" last="Yoder"] - 2020 - Westview

[player_tooltip player_id="785180" first="Charlie" last="Yoder"] has been a star this season, and he had one of his best games of the season. Yoder racked up 35 points and 20 boards as well as 7 assists. Yoder is the best senior still available for this year, and he showed with this performance that he can take Westview far in this tournament.

He put up 34 in the win for Blackford over Madison-Grant. He also put up 34 on 1-8 shooting from behind the arc. If Brown can get his 3-point shot back, Blackford can win Sectional and make a run at Regional.

[player_tooltip player_id="783145" first="Gus" last="Etchison"] - 2021 - Hamilton Heights

Etchison scores at a terrific rate, and he continued this with another 30 point performance by scoring 33 in the win over New Castle on their home floor. If Etchison scores like this, Hamilton Heights could upset Delta in the championship game, but he was able to get them past their first big test last night.

Tyler Myers - 2023 - Evansville Day

Evansville Day scored a tightly-contested victory over Springs Valley in the opening round thanks to a dominating performance by Tyler Myers. Myers put up a game-high 29 points to lead the Eagles to a 61-56 victory. Evansville Day has the potential to win the Sectional if they can pull an upset win over the favorites, Northeast Dubois.

Graham was an outstanding 9-11 from the floor, including 3 of 3 behind the arc. He finished with 28 points and 7 boards in one of his best performances of the season.

Grant Niehaus - 2020 - Washington

Washington was a heavy favorite coming in, but Vincennes Lincoln was able to keep it close throughout. Washington was able to pull it out in overtime largely thanks to 26 points from their top scorer, Grant Niehaus.

Brady Bontrager - 2020 - Lakeland

Lakeland was a slight underdog coming into their game with Tippecanoe Valley, but they were able to control the entire game on their way to a 21 point victory. Brady Bontrager led the Lakers with a 24 point performance to help put Lakeland over the top.

Greenamoyer was lights out from beyond the arc with 7 made triples in the ball game. If he can continue to shoot like that, University is going to be tough to beat down the stretch.

[player_tooltip player_id="875777" first="Preston" last="Phillips"] - 2020 - Jimtown
