The season may have just come to an abrupt end. That being said, the games and talent on the court this season were truly special. There were a lot of seniors that had great seasons and accomplished a lot in their encore campaign. We will look at the finalists for the Most Outstanding Player, and choose 1 recipient of the honor. This was a loaded and deep field with any number of deserving finalists and award winners.

FINALISTS

[player_tooltip player_id="784999" first="Tyson" last="Acuff"] (PG, Cass Tech)

Acuff was as good as anyone in the state this season. The prolific point guard played at the highest level all season. Acuff was named the Detroit PSL Player of the Year. His Detroit Cass Tech team had a 20-2 record and reached the District Finals.

[player_tooltip player_id="784994" first="Lorne" last="Bowman"] (PG, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s)

Bowman had a terrific season as a high level floor general that can create and score or dish. He had his team ranked at or near the top all season long. Bowman led his team to a 21-1 mark and reached the District title game.

[player_tooltip player_id="785001" first="Daijon" last="Humphrey"] (CG, Southfield Christian)

He was the centerpiece of a Southfield Christian team that had a 17-4 record. The multi level scorer had his team in the District Finals and ready to compete for a state championship.

[player_tooltip player_id="766052" first="Isaiah" last="Jackson"] (PF, Warren Mott)

Jackson came back to Michigan to finish out his senior season, and he didn’t disappoint. The defensive wizard and amazing athlete put Warren Mott on a whole new level. They had a record of 20-2 and were set to do battle for a District crown.

[player_tooltip player_id="629026" first="Matt" last="Nicholson"] (C, Clarkston)

Nicholson is a true success story. He went from picking up blowout minutes to being one of the top 2 post prospects in the state. He led his Clarkston team to a 21-1 mark and they were ready for a District title showdown.

[player_tooltip player_id="531688" first="Ryan" last="Rollins"] (CG, Macomb Dakota)

Rollins quietly got the job done. He deserves more recognition as a talent and a champion in Michigan. His team had a record of 18-3 and earned a trip to the District Finals.

[player_tooltip player_id="784993" first="Jalen" last="Terry"] (PG, Flint Beecher)

Terry is as explosive as they come in transition and will be forever remembered as a Flint great. His Flint Beecher team was 20-2 and ready for a championship showdown.

[player_tooltip player_id="531692" first="Jarvis" last="Walker"] (PG, Muskegon)

Walker will go down in history as a top player from Muskegon. He led his Muskegon team to a 20-2 record and they were poised to play in a District championship game.

[player_tooltip player_id="785014" first="Charles" last="Woodhams"] (G/F, Otsego)

Woodhams had a memorable season, leading his team to a 21-1 record and a District Finals appearance. He was a lights out scorer all season.

MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER

[player_tooltip player_id="784992" first="Carlos" last="Johnson"] (SF, Benton Harbor)

In a loaded and deep class, Scooby Johnson gets my nod. For 4 years now he’s been a prime time player, always showing up on the big stage. Johnson contributes in so many different ways that it’s impossible for him not to effect the outcome of every game. He was always a threat for a double-double, or even a triple-double. Johnson can play outside-in or inside-out, in addition to being able to defend in the paint or on the perimeter. Scooby is a leader among leaders, and had his Benton Harbor squad primed for a run at a state championship. They stood with a 20-2 record and a District Finals game. Scooby Johnson will continue his basketball career at Butler, where he is the centerpiece of possibly their best recruiting class in school history.
