Continue ReadingHistory: D1 New Mexico is a program that spun off from the D1 Ambassadors. “We’re up to 15 in-state teams and with the affiliations we have across the country we’re up to about 134 teams total.” Malik Waters (HC). In the last 4 years, they’ve had 28 guys earn college scholarships, making them the premier grassroots programs in New Mexico. This is their second year playing on the PrepHoops Circuit. They will be looking to capture a Hustle Region Title, as their 17U came up just short in the Championship game.
How Long Have You Had The Program?
“We’ve been going strong for 4 years now being completely independent”
What did you like about the PH Circuit?
“The competition”. “We played teams from Florida, Texas, Arizona Utah, Chicago”. “Also the exposure that you guys bring the kids is second to none”.
What’s the one thing you want people to know about D1 New Mexico?
“When people think New Mexico, they don’t think it’s the Mecca of basketball, but after 10 years of doing this people kind of recognize who we are. We’re actually pretty dang good out here”.
What tournaments are you guys playing outside of the circuit?
“We’ll be on the Under Armor Circuit. We’ll be playing in Indianapolis, Atlanta, and Kansas City.”
Players to Watch:
Isaiah Carr 6’10 PF Las Cruces 2022 – Long fluid athlete that runs the floor like a deer. Good hands and a quick first jump. “If he’s not one of the top 100 players in his class then I don’t know who is”.
Deuce Benjamin 5’10 PG Las Cruces 2022 – “PG that you guys know can score from everywhere, and does it very quickly”
Kaden Self 6’6 SF Las Cruces 2022 – Fluid, highly skilled athlete with good fundamentals. Strong rebounder that can use both hands around the rim.
Dashawn Ortiz 6’3 – “Can play any position on the floor, can guard any position on the floor”.
Sleeper
Kaden Crosby 6’7 Pflugerville Tx 2021 – Smooth shooting lefty. “Shoots the heck out of the ball, sneaky athletic, great timing off the floor rebounds it well.
