Deerfield controlled it throughout the game, but Carmel never gave up cutting it to 5 points in the fourth. In the end Deerfield won by a final 74-64. Here are the Most Intriguing Prospects: Deerfield vs Carmel!
Brandon Lieb Brandon Lieb 6'10" | C Deerfield | 2020 State IL (Deerfield – 2020)
Lieb was not great in the first half. The top uncommitted post prospect in the state changed that real fast in the second half. This 6’11” center has tremendous size and a frame that he should be able to continue to add strength on moving forward. Early on he didn’t have his usual touch around the basket. Got it going in the second half with a couple of post moves and once he saw it go through the hoop it was on! Lieb threw down an array of big dunks on alley-oops or off put backs. Most impressive one was catching a bad pass on the move then maneuvering his body to slam it home. Did work on the glass too all night dominating the boards like he should have. Lieb finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds.
Walter Mattingly Walter Mattingly 6'6" | SF Deerfield | 2021 State IL (Deerfield – 2021)
Just an ok game out of the 6’7” small forward. He shoots a pretty clean ball, but it just didn’t go down for him. He was most effective finishing inside including a slick drive for an and-1. Also made regular trips to the charity stripe. He had 12 points. Very intriguing with his combination of size, skill, and emerging athleticism.
Zach Friedman (Deerfield – 2021)
Friedman put his name on our radar for sure! The 6’3” lefty bombed in three after three after three. In total he had five of them from beyond the arc mostly from the corners spotting up. Shooter with size finished with 18 points.
Luke Woodson (Deerfield – 2022)
Woodson is a scrappy sophomore point guard that plays with toughness. Brought a floater game to the table getting in the lane consistently especially in the first half. He had 11 points.
Kimahri Wilson Kimahri Wilson 6'2" | PG North Chicago | 2021 State IL (Carmel – 2021)
Wilson is one of the top junior point guards in the state. He did absolutely everything he could to keep his team in the game on Friday night. Wilson is a twitchy point guard that is shifty with the ball in his hands. Has it on a string and is quick getting through defenders in the lane. Made quite a few difficult layups including a Kyrie like reverse on the opposite side beating Lieb. Burst with the ball in his hands both in the half court and open floor. At times can be a bit wild with it and turnover prone. Like what he did passing throwing crisp dishes in the drive and kick game along with making quality reads on the dribble handoffs. Pesky defender that has a knack for getting steals. The biggest area he is going to have to work on this summer is his jumper. He only made one all night. Leans forward on it and even looks awkward at the free throw line with his shooting stance. To reach his full potential he will have to improve as a shooter, but there are a lot of things to like in this guard. He had 27 points on the night.
Kyle Beals (Carmel – 2020)
Beals is a senior guard that and plays with some toughness. Hit a three off the catch, but did most of his damage in the lane. Gambles defensively which sometimes he is rewarded and others he isn’t. Finished with 7 points.
Bryce Moore (Carmel – 2022)
Moore is an interesting prospect because he has good size at 6’4” and plays with a pretty high activity level. He was best as a rebounder in this contest going for 6 points.
Syone Usma-Harper (Carmel – 2021)
Usma-Harper scored 10 points in the regional final loss. Stocky two guard is a decent shooter knocking down a mid-range pull up along with a three off the catch.
