With the 2A and 3A Champions already crowned We look to the 6A-4A and 1A teams to provide us with quality basketball. This year did not disappoint. There were a lot of skeptics when it came to the RPI ranking and although it was not perfect it was able to provide drama and excitement. There were upsets and some teams that we wanted to see square off against each other all year. With only 1 team in 6 classifications to win State as the 1 seed made for an exciting and unpredictable Championship Weekend.
6A Champion Fremont High School
Not only did the team that was favored throughout the season win the state championship it faced region foe Davis High School. This 1 vs. 2 matchup lived up to the hype as Fremont was 0-2 against the Darts coming into the game. Fremont was able to eek out a victory as 4 players scored in double-figures. Fremont was lead by Dallin Hall who secured himself a his first State Championship. Dallin had 16 points but the kid does it in so many ways. Facing a team you have played every year at least 4 times in the past 4 years everyone knows each other and that makes it difficult.
Davis played so well but just fell short in the end. They needed one more player in double-figures to help them in this final game. Spencer Vernon was a beast with 19 points and so was Trevan Leonhardt who notched 16 points.
5A Champion Springville High School
With Paul Terry being stiffed in the previous game he was able to get past the previous game and get himself and his game together in the game that mattered. The most impressive part of the night for Terry was his 8 assist. Zach Visentin was his normal self a load inside as he had 16 and 12. Springville was impressive all tournament as they always found ways with multiple players.
Timpview a heavy laden underclassmen team fought as their two leaders Jake Wahlin and Coleman Ford reached double-figures. They just couldn’t get enough stops.
4A Champion Dixie High School
Dixie was the 3rd 2 seed to be crowned as champion. Issac Finlinson and Noah Lemke were the stars of the game. Especially when Mason Falslev fouled out. Isaac and Noah each scored 17 points as Dixie was able to control the tempo all game long.
Mason ended his stellar career with a game high 22 points. This kid will be special at The University of Utah. He just didn’t get enough help.
1A Champion Bryce Valley
Bryce Valley faced off against Panguitch for the 4th time this year. It took and overtime period but they were able to win the most important game of the year as they remained 4-0 against Panguitch. Treyson Roberts led all scores with 15 points in the low scoring affair as the 5th seeded team prevailed.
Panguitch had a tough road to the final and they should be proud of their accomplishments. The went 3-10 from the free-throw line and that was a major component to the end result.
2A Champion Beaver High School
3A Champion Manti High School
