Jeremiah Dotson – 2021 – F – Brown Deer
Dotson is still progressing, but showed some good flashes on Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 forward has clearly worked on his body some and is starting to fill out. Chipping in with 14 points, Dotson showed little hesitation when he caught in traffic, going right to the rim rather than bringing the ball down where guards can swipe at it. Dotson was an efficient 7-of-10 from the floor. He also had a few nice assists, catching defenders cheating into the lane to stop his attacks.
Justin Greenlee – 2020 – PG – Brown Deer
Greenlee stepped up big time on Tuesday. Brown Deer led by 18 at the half, large in part due to 13 first half points from Greenlee. The senior guard seems to have improved a ton from last season. He’s confident with his ability to break defenders down off the bounce and looked much more explosive in that regard. More of an attacker earlier in his career, Greenlee shot the ball as well as we’ve seen and hit some tough stuff in the 12-18 foot range. A drive-and-dish guard who can draw defenders and drop the basketball off, Greenlee always does a great job of getting into the teeth of the defense and forcing defenders to leave their man.
Danilo Jovanovich – 2022 – F – Whitnall
This kid continues to trend in the right direction. A versatile, skilled forward, Jovanovich put Whitnall on his back for a long stretch in the second half to help the Falcons rally fron a near 20-point deficit. If Jovanovich is able to get to his left hand, it’s already over as a defender. The 6-foot-5 forward is so comfortable driving to his left or pulling up off the dribble that it’s hard to get him out of a rhythm. Brown Deer threw a lot of double teams his way and Jovanovich did a great job of spinning out of them or beating them with the pass. He finished with 22 points in Tuesday’s loss.
Armani Jones – 2022 – PG – Brown Deer
Jones didn’t finish around the rim well early, but settled down and started to control the game after a stint on the bench. A very explosive scorer with great quickness, Jones uses his size to his advantage very well. He was very deadly against Whitnall’s zone, able to sneak his way into tight areas and attack the paint. At 5-foot-9, Jones plays very low to the ground and leaves defenders in the dust with a hesitation dribble. Also a dangerous 3-point shooter, Jones can fill it up from 3-point range. He might be undersized, but Jones is also fearless. He’ll attack bigs at the rim, absorb contact, and finish. Also loved some of the passes he delivered, hitting defender with no-look dimes or one-hand lasers. The sophomore guard finished with a game-high 18 points on Tuesday.
Tommy Tilley – 2021 – SG – Whitnall
Tilley came in averaging about 14 points per game. He finished with a game-high 25. The junior guard got on an absolute roll in the second half to ignite a big run for Whitnall. Needing energy coming out of the locker room, Tilley provided that with a couple of strong finishes around the rim. The 6-foot guard caught us by surprise with his ability to score the ball. He can do a variety of different things — knock down open 3’s, face up from mid-range and shoot over the top, or attack the basket. Also a blue collar defender that puts in the work on that end, Tilley seemed to lead the Falcons on that end.
