The Comets had an eight point lead in the fourth quarter, but visiting Trinity Catholic displayed some veteran moxie is rallying to take a 66-61 victory in this exciting post-season tune-up for both teams.
Here is a look at the top standouts from both teams:
Trinity Catholic
Ryan Kalkbrenner 7’0″ (’20): The Creighton signee had a dominant performance at both ends of the court with 16 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots, plus several other altered shots around the basket. He was sweeping the defensive boards at a torrid pace in the first half while also scoring on five offensive put-backs. He is a force of nature around the basket while still doing it in a finesse manner. He had two dunks late in the game which helped seal the victory for the Titans.
Rashad Weekly 6’0″ (’20): The Central Michigan recruit finished an excellent all-around performance with a game-high 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists. He did much of the ball handling against McCluer’s pressure defense while also getting key buckets in the fourth quarter. He is tremendously confident with the ball in his hands as a scorer and a passer. He also nailed the game shut with his free throw shooting down the stretch.
Terrell Rush 6’1″ (’20): A Miami of Ohio football recruit, Rush finished with 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals. He was the Titans big offensive spark in the first quarter when his team got off to a slow start. He stayed in attack mode throughout the game and had two huge assists in the closing minutes that led to the Titans’ game-tying and go-ahead baskets.
McCluer
Devon Barshow 6’6″ (’20): The slender wing finished the game with a team-high 18 points. He displayed a smooth offensive game and the ability to get buckets at all three levels. He knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and also hit mid-range jumpers off the bounce. He has good length and elevation on his jumper. His upside as a player is still high as he is a late-bloomer who has grown several inches since entering high school.
Jeremiah Johnson 6’2″ (’20): The slender four-year varsity starter scored 17 points and registered three steals. He hit a game-high four 3-pointers, including a nice pull ups in transition. His game has always been about getting into the lane and shooting the short jumper, but he did a nice job of taking what the defense gave him and he calmly knocked down four of seven from long distance. His length and activity are also his big assets on the defensive end.
Kam Hubbard 6’5″ (’20): The athletic power forward put up a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, which included a couple of resounding dunks. He spent the entire game taking the ball right at the 7’0″ Kalkbrenner under the basket. He didn’t have much success in the first half, but his attacking bore fruit in the second half as he scored all 11 of his points. He plays with great activity with his athleticism and high motor.
