The Eagles move back into the No. 1 spot by virtue of Jamestown losing last week. It’s been mostly domination from Fargo Davies all year with the exception of a hiccup loss to Grand Forks Central in mid-January. The Eagles can win in a lot of ways and with any combination of guys providing a lot of production. Cam Van Dam has been terrific and guys like Grayson Haman, Ty Satter, Mason Bitz and Owen Hektner can all break a game open with their shooting.
West Fargo Sheyenne
The Mustangs have been ranked in the top-three since very early in the year and move up to No. 2 with Jamestown losing another game last week. West Fargo Sheyenne has proven to be dominant over every team in the EDC with the exception of Fargo Davies and the Mustangs will get their shot at the Eagles in the final game of the regular season. Tyler Terhark has seemingly found his game after a slow-ish start to the season and gives the Mustangs two legitimate first-team all-league guys.
Jamestown
The Bluejays took a loss to Dickinson last week, despite getting 49 points from Boden Skunberg, to fall to 12-2 on the year. Jamestown’s been getting solid play as of late from guys like Keith Levin, Jacob Hilgemann and Shea Carroll in addition to Skunberg, Carson Lamp and Brooks Carroll. When this team is going well, it’s got as high of a ceiling as any team in the state.
Bismarck
The Demons went 2-1 last week, losing to Jamestown and beating Williston and Watford City in blowout fashion. Bismarck has a different style of play than just about anybody else and the kind of depth that makes it hard to know who is going to be the difference-maker on a nightly basis. Gunner Swanson has really come into his own in the last few weeks.
Minot
The Magicians beat up on a couple of the bottom-dwellers last week to move to 12-4 on the year. With five games left in the regular season, Minot still has to play four teams with state tournament aspirations. Finishing second in the WDA is still possible though the Magicians will need some help as Bismarck swept the season series from them.
Mandan
The Braves have won four games in a row and are seemingly peaking at the right time of year. Mandan still plays Dickinson, Bismarck, Bismarck Century and Jamestown before the season is over, so things will certainly be difficult. But with Jaxton Wiest back in the lineup and playing better, plus excellent contribution from Jayce Lowman and Tyler Thilmony, the Braves have to feel good about where they are heading down the stretch.
Dickinson
The Midgets were starting to fall apart a little bit. A win over Jamestown last week should dispel any notion that Dickinson isn’t to be reckoned with though. Jaiden Wright and Kobe Krenz combined for 55 points and they got excellent play from Cole Praus, Jayden Hocker and Tallon Klatt to supplement the offense. If Praus, Hocker and Klatt play well, this team is going to be really tough to beat.
Bismarck Century
The Patriots have won four games in a row including two last week to move to 10-6 on the season. Like a lot of the top teams in the league, the Patriots have a backloaded schedule with four really tough teams left to play in their final five games. The defense will always be a strength and keep them in games, and if Ian Ely, Griffin Jensen and Anthony Doppler can keep playing well, the Patriots will have a chance.
Bismarck Legacy
The Sabers have mostly gotten right in recent weeks against a lot of the bottom-dweller teams in the WDA but blew out Dickinson last week in a big statement win. Rhett Clements has slowed down offensively (though he’s still be consistently productive) but it has more to do with guys like Ben Patton, Zander Albers and Joey Buzalsky stepping up and providing a little more in recent weeks. Bismarck Legacy has developed its depth nicely as the season’s gone on.
Grand Forks Red River
The Roughriders picked up three wins last week, gutting out wins over Fargo North and Wahpeton while also beating Devils Lake by 17. Will Obioha is back and playing well, averaging nearly 14 points and six rebounds per game. With him back, the Roughriders have the potential to be a nightmare of a team to deal with on the defensive end of the floor. Cole Benson has enjoyed quite a breakout season and had himself a night in the win over the Firebirds, drilling six 3-pointers on his way to a 28-point evening.
