Beyond the Numbers

[player_tooltip player_id="931150" first="Danilo" last="Petrovic"] was able to fly under the radar this season on a Roosevelt team that found themselves bouncing around in the middle of the Seattle Metro League, but his performances have earned him a spot in our 2022 rankings. Danilo is a strong 6'3" with impressive success on the glass. He's not relying on overwhelming athleticism to make an impact on the court but rather a combination of quick reflexes and the ability to command space, similar qualities to an athlete he admires. "If there was an NBA player I would try to model my game after, it would be Nikola Jokic because I love that he involves his team and brings energy to the game through scoring, rebounding, and passing."

Although they will lose senior Connor Mirick, Roosevelt is set up to improve upon their 8th place finish in league play this season as they will return several junior starters including point guard [player_tooltip player_id="843760" first="Alex" last="Pape"], shooting guard Jake Downing, and center [player_tooltip player_id="843790" first="Julian" last="Swanson"]. Danilo plans to continue playing to his strengths while also working to improve other aspects of his game. "I'm always on the offensive and defensive glass, and I'm always getting little putbacks or layups against taller and stronger guys. I would like to increase my 3 point shot and my ball handling making me more of a threat on offense, spreading the floor. That's what I'm looking to work on this Summer."

Beyond his rebounding and scoring contributions, Danilo also brings a solid understanding of the game that allows him to help his team by doing the small things that help teams win. "I think I bring team energy and an IQ by involving my teammates in certain plays and sets. For example, recognizing mismatches and off-ball screening to open up my teammates."

In the short term, Danilo wants to become a larger impact-player on his team in order to get them to state next year, and he hopes to continue playing at the next level. "Hopefully I'll be picking up offers from any team because I'm really interested in furthering my career at the college level." Beyond college, Danilo also hopes for the opportunity to play in his home country of Serbia.
