The Top 4 seeds in the field have a double-bye which instantly puts them in the third round of the playoffs. Here’s an overview of the top seeds:
1. Concord First Assembly Academy (31-3)
The Concord First Assembly Academy Eagles have been firing on all cylinders in 2019-20 led by Trae Benham, Garrett Hien, Cheick Traore and Isaac Boothe. The Eagles went 12-0 in the Metrolina Conference and won the conference tournament title as well this season. As a top seed, they’ll be a team to beat at the 3A level.
2. Carmel Christian School (22-5)
The Carmel Christian School Cougars enter the NCISAA 3A State Playoffs with a 22-5 record and have lost just one of their last seven games heading into a do-or-die stretch of the season. 2021 forward Ben Burnham returns just in time for a key run for the Cougars, look for his name to come up a lot in the results.
3. Village Christian Academy (19-6)
The Village Christian Academy Knights are coming off a close victory in the Sandhills Conference Tournament Championship game and look to return to this year’s State Title game after losing by a point in last year’s championship. Zay McLean and unsigned seniors Justin Thomas and Joshua Reid will be looking to go out with a bang in the 3A State playoffs.
4. Asheville Christian Academy (17-7)
The Asheville Christian Academy Lions have hit a few roadblocks in their last few games, but they still remain a No. 4 seed and hold the potential to go deep in the NCISAA 3A State Playoffs.
Sleeper Team: Calvary Day School (19-4)
The Calvary Day School Cougars are a No. 8 seed in the NCISAA 3A State Playoffs. They’re a young squad led by 2022 point guard James Wilkins III but he’s got a frontcourt of 2021 forward Javon Floyd and 2022 forward Charles McClenahan along with Zech Gibson and Owen Gulledge that could have them set for a run in the 2A Playoffs.
