Tasty Appetizer. Sometimes appetizers are all you need for the meal and today’s #1 De Smet vs #3 Dell Rapids St. Mary contest could be the game of the weekend! The beauty of this game is the girls/boys double-header plus the streaming that will take place online as well! The game features several quality juniors Ethan McCune, Cody Cavanaugh, Connor Libis, and Max Herber among others. Watch out for sophomores Kalen Garry and Rett Osthu of De Smet as well! Weston Geraets and Connar Kangas have really helped make the Cards a deep team.
Specials. Tea Area vs SF O’Gorman. The Class AA vs Class A crossover games, games for bragging rights and match-ups of interest. These games bring a lot of interest especially with the Titans at 3-1 and ranked 5th in their class despite a new head coach and a new line-up. Garrett Kolbeck and Cael Lundin have had a some great starts to the year and guys like Joe Walnofer and Austin Lake give the team depth despite no varsity experience. O’Gorman came into the year with massive expectations but lost two of three. They have since rebounded to win four straight including a 62-54 victory over Roosevelt when Akoi Akoi had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Main Course. The Big East Conference Tournament is one of the fun events in the state. Tonight the semi-finals will be played with McCook Central/Montrose (3-3) taking on #4 Sioux Valley (6-0) and Parker (6-1) facing Flandreau (4-2). The finals will be played on Saturday ending the three games in three days gauntlet. Kelton Vincent of Sioux Valley, Tash Lunday of Flandreau, and Kaden Pesicka of Parker had standout Thursday performances in the quarterfinals.
Dessert. Yankton vs SF Lincoln. The 5pm Saturday night battle at Lincoln is the 5th ranked Patriots against the #1 ranked Bucks from Yankton. Both teams are coming off several days of rest ready for an important game. Yankton looks to be a deeper team than they’ve had in the past and now they are motivated after having lost to O’Gorman recently. Lincoln has a very new line-up but they had no issue with O’Gorman beating the Knights by 14. Sam Fawcett vs Cooper Cornemann should be fun on the wing while a mass of 6-foot-4, 6-foot-5 Lincoln players will try and limit Mathew Mors.
