Waukesha West: West picked up two in-conference victories against Westosha Central and Mukwonago this week. The key factor in both wins is momentum. They’ve won four straight games, their longest win streak of the year, and are over .500 for the first time since December 20th of 2019.
Saint John’s Northwest Military Academy: Behind Brandin Podziemski’s 38 points, SJNMA bested Brookfield Academy for the second time this season, moving closer to sealing the top spot in the conference.
Earlier in the week, they also had a less glamorous win over Living Word Lutheran.
Madison Memorial: Memorial extended their winning streak to eight games this week, outlasting a top-ranked Sun Prairie team 73-64. After losing their first three games, Memorial has rolled over some talented teams in the Big Eight conference, but they officially stepped into the upper echelon this week, and have the potential to advance even further next week with games against Madison La Follette and Madison East.
Turner: Turner’s two wins this week came in opposite fashions. Against Brodhead, they scored 91 points with junior, Jordan Majeed scoring 39 of them. Later in the week against Evansville — their marquee win of the week — they scored just 39 points (what Majeed scored the game before) and won by two points.
It was an interesting week, certainly, but the two wins lift them to 9-3 on the year, a stellar record in a respected conference.
Honorable Mention:
La Crosse Central – Central finished this week with a 1-2 record, but they truly represented the state’s elite basketball talent on a larger scale. They played in the Montverde Invitational against some of the top teams from across the nation. Their first win over South Miami (FL) came by just a point. They followed up with a five-point loss to Long Island Lutheran (NY), a game that saw Johnny Davis drop 37 points, and ended with a Saturday loss to Scotlandville Magnet (LA).
