This was a big week in Nevada basketball. As two of the best teams in the state Bishop Gormon and Cornado locked horns in an ESPN televised game. Not to mention a few tournaments being played in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. There were a lot of big performances this week let’s look at some of them.
Jaden Hardy 6’4 PG Coronado 2021 (#1PHN 2021) – What is there to say about
Jaden Hardy that hasn’t already been said? If you are a ball player every player has that one game that in 50 years someone will ask you. “How did you know when you arrived?” Hardy will point out to Monday’s MLK Day Invitational as that game where he scored 62 points. The best part of that 62 was his team trailed by 21 points in the second half and Hardy exploded and did more than enough to earn a hard fought victory against a tough Cathedral Catholic. Hardy was a high volume shooter on the day. He drew several comparisons to Bradley Beal even DeAngelo Russell. Hardy set social media a blaze and rightfully so. Hardy solidifed his spot as the best all around scorer in the state with this type of performance. We all heard that story about Al Bundy’s three touchdown game. Well I have a feeling this won’t be Hardy’s last 60 point game. This dude is a hooper!
Taviontae Jackson 6’0 G Las Vegas (#11 2022)- Jackson has grown to be one of my favorite players in all the state. The more he performs the more I’ll write about him. Jackson may have had the best game of his young career on Monday 1/20 Jackson scored 35 points. Jackson did whatever he wanted to do and had a very efficient game going 11/16 from the floor. As I wrote in the past he is a magnet when it comes to the ball. He reads passing lanes well and also does a good job moving laterally and staying in front of his man. Jackson can get buckets in a ton of ways. He continues to add on to his legacy as one of the better PGs in the state.
Nicholas Attanasio 6’3 SG Faith Lutheran 2020 (#49 2020) – Attanasio is one of the top shooters in the state. The lefty has shown the ability to wreak havoc on zone defenses with his silky smooth stroke. This past Thursday 1/23 he gave Centenial fits scoring 26 points with most of those coming from the three point line. The all academic prospect has had a fantastic senior year for a pretty strong Faith Lutheran team. What I learned ultimatley is leave him open at your own risk as he is a high volume high percentage shooter.
Ray Daniels 6’6 SF Somerset Losee 2020 (#22 PHN 2020) – Daniels might be one of the best scorers in the state averaging 24.6 per game this season. He is a do it all kind of player for Losee and his ability to will his teams to wins is impressive although his team fell short on Thursday 1/23 against Del Sol. Daniels had a great game scoring 27 points 11 rebounds 3 steals and 3 blocks. Daniels did a little bit of everything. He’s a smooth swingman that can drive to the lane, or shoot it accurate from deep. Daniels is forced to play with the ball in his hands a lot. It’s one of those sitiuations we know what you are going to do as a team stop me if you can. Most teams can’t stop Daniels.
David Moore 6’2 SF 2020 (#60 2020) – Moore’s calling card is his rebounding ability that was really on display Tuesday 1/21 against Palo Verde. Moore had 13 points and 16 rebound double double and he chipped in with 2 blocks. Moore did most of his damage inside the basket. Moore is like the Draymond Green of this team he does the dirty work which allows his back court to flourish. I love Moore he plays like he is 7’1. On the season Moore is averaging a double double 10 points and 10 rebounds.
